July 4

The Spirit of America Festival will be Thur., July 4, beginning at 4 p.m., ending with fireworks at 10 p.m. at Point Mallard Park in Decatur.

 

July 5

American Red Cross’ Bloodmobile will be at Falkville Healthcare, 10 W. Third St., Falkville, Fri., July 5, from 2 to 6 p.m. For more information, contact Teresa Bush at 256-990-0830, or www.redcrossblood.org.

 

July 9

The Morgan County Extension Office is hosting a Babysitting 101 class Tues., July 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center. Learn the basics of babysitting, diaper changing, feeding, games to play with children and what to do in an emergency. This is not a Red Cross certification class and there is no fee. Cullman Regional Medical Center offers a two-day babysitting certification class for boys and girls ages 11–13. Lunch and snacks are provided for a cost of $50 for children of WomenFirst members and $70 for others. To register, call 737-2600 or online www.crmchospital.com.

 

July 11

Thur., July 11, Shoals Creek Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall, 1077 Shoals Creek Road, Decatur, is having a Jada Beverly “Blood Stock” Scholar-ship Blood Drive, from 2 to 7 p.m. Donors can schedule an appt. at www.redcrossblood.org or Teresa Bush 256-990-0830.

 

The CBD Design Review Board July meeting, if needed, will be scheduled for July 11 at 5 p.m. due to the July 4 holiday. Submittals will be were due by June 27.

 

Hartselle Parks and Recreation will host family movie night in Sparkman Park for free. Just bring a lawn chair and snacks, or purchase from concessions. The Tom Hanks classic “Big” will be shown July 11 at dusk at Pavilion 4. For more information, call 256-773-2581.

 

Helen Sterbutzel will present the Falkville Public Library Summer Reading Program on “Worms and Compos-ting” at 2 p.m. at the Falkville Town Hall courtroom.

 

July 12

Sparkman Civic Center will host a night of fun and games for kids 5-12 years old during its FUN-tastic Friday on July 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Parents can plan a fun evening out and drop the kids off for a $10 fee. Register by July 8 to reserve your space. Snacks will be provided.

 

Body Quest will be Mon., July 12, through Thur., July 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at Sparkman Civic Center. Body Quest is a four-day workshop with the goal to increase fruit and vegetable consumption, make physical activity jazzy, enhance sleep, hygiene and encourage family engagement, all with the help of an Apple iPad. Register by Mon., July 8.

 

July 13

Cullman Regional Medical Center is having a Prepared Childbirth Class Sat. July 13, from 8 a.m. to noon. Mom’s support person is encouraged to attend.The cost is $25 per couple or $20 per couple for WomenFirst Members and FREE to Medicaid patients.

CRMC Prenatal Breastfeeding Class is also Sat., July 13, from 1-3 p.m. with a $10 fee. Both classes are held in CRMC’s Depot Room, in POB 2. Register online at www.crmchospital.com/maternity or call CRMC at 256-737-2200.

 

July 15

The Morgan County Extension Office is offering a free Canning Class July 15 at 10 a.m. This two-hour class will teach the basics of canning in order to preserve food safely and eliminate the possibility of incurring deadly botulism poisoning. Please call ahead at 256-773-2549 and reserve a seat by July 12.
