Danville Rd. repair to cost $115,800

Morgan County Commissioners voted to spend $115,800 to replace a drainage culvert on Danville Road near Danville High School at a special called meeting Monday morning.

Miller & Miller Contracting of Huntsville submitted the low bid.

Commission Chairman Ray Long was authorized to put the job out for bids two weeks ago after the culvert was damaged by floodwater on July 4. Since then both northbound and southbound traffic has been detoured on Johnson Chapel Road.

“Before the culvert can be replaced, the West Lawrence and East Morgan Water Authority will have to relocate a 12-inch water main,” Long said. “We hope that work is done soon.”

Long said commissioners decided to install a steel reinforced box culvert with concrete footers instead of trying to salvage the old culvert, which was old and in need of repair.

“Floodwater contributed to the culvert’s collapse,” Long said.
