Community Calendar for Aug. 14

Aug. 15

F.E. Burleson Elementary School will have an open house Aug. 15. First and second grade open house will be from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Third and fourth grade open house will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

 

First through fourth grade students and parents of Cotaco School are invited to come and meet the teacher Thurs., Aug. 15, from 6-7 p.m. Please bring your school supplies to this event.

 

The MCHS Class of 1959 will have its fourth annual “Meet ‘n Eat” Thurs., Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. at Sedona Steakhouse. All class members, spouses, and/or guests are invited. Crestline Elementary School will have parent orientation meetings for ECLIPSE pre-k, second and third grades Aug. 15 at 6 p.m.

 

The Morgan County Board of Education will have a special called meeting Aug. 15 at 5 p.m.

 

Sparkman School will have an open house Aug. 15 from 6-7:30 p.m. Meet the staff and drop off school supplies in your student’s classroom. There will be a brief meeting in the lunchroom.

 

Union Hill School will have sixth grade orientation Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. Parents/guardians and students are encouraged to attend this informative meeting. Students will be able to pay fees and access their lockers at this meeting. Fees for sixth grade are $38 for students taking band and $33 for students not taking band.

 

The final Brewer youth football signup for ages 5-and-under through 12 will be Aug. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Huskey Park. For more information, call 256-347-2795.

 

Aug. 16

Hartselle High School will have its freshman camp, an orientation session for all incoming freshmen, Fri., Aug. 16, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Students will learn about the school, visit their classes, meet teachers, and have lunch with us. It is strongly recommended for all freshmen to attend.

 

Crestline Elementary School will have meet your teacher and drop off your school supplies Fri., Aug. 16, from 8-9 a.m. Crestline Notebooks, as listed on the supply lists, will be available on meet the teacher day or during parent orientation meetings.

 

Morgan County Schools will have its institute day for teachers and school employees Aug. 16 at Somerville Baptist Church.

 

Union Hill School will hold an open house for students and parents Aug. 16 from 1:30-3 p.m. Lockers will be available for rent to junior high students.

Aug. 17 Terry Smith and the Poor House Band will perform at Gurley’s Soggy Bottom Music Barn in Florette on Sat., Aug. 17, beginning at 7 p.m. There is a $5 admission and food will be available. For more information, call 256-606-7083 or 256-778-8432.

 

Priceville Junior High School will have picture day for its fall sports program Aug. 17 at 8 a.m.

The Edd Balch Memorial Scholarship Fund will sponsor an Evening of Entertainment at the new Hartselle High School Auditorium Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. They are seeking volunteers to participate in this variety-type show – singing (solos or groups), instrumental individuals or groups, dancing, dramatic reading, etc. Anyone who was directed by Edd or performed with him in a theater production or sang with him in Decatur Civic Chorus concerts is encouraged to participate. Proceeds will help pay for $1,000 scholarships to at least three local college students.

 

Aug. 18

Crestline Elementary School will have a parent orientation meeting for kindergarten Aug. 18 at 2 p.m.

 

Orientation for Hartselle Junior High School will be Sun., Aug. 18, from 2-3 p.m. in the Pettey Center. This will be informational only. Schedules will be given out and lockers sold during homeroom on Aug. 19.

 

Priceville Elementary School will have orientation for first through fifth grades Aug. 18. First and second grades will meet from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in classrooms. Third and fourth grades will meet from 3-4 p.m. in classrooms. Fifth grade will meet from 3-4 p.m. in the cafeteria.

 

Aug. 19

Today is the first day of school for students in Hartselle and Morgan County.

 

Lacey’s Spring School will have pre-k orientation sessions Aug. 19 from 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.

 

Priceville Elementary School will have kindergarten orientation Aug. 19. From 9:30-10 a.m., girls report to classroom. From 10-10:30 a.m., all kindergarten students and parents will report to gym. From 10:30-11 a.m., boys report to classroom.

 

Priceville Elementary School will have its T-shirt sales Aug. 19 through Sept. 13.

 

Sparkman School will have a half-day open house for its kindergarten students and parents Aug. 19 from 8-11 a.m.

The Terrace will offer a “boo hoo” breakfast Thurs., Aug. 22, for parents of Priceville Elementary School kindergarten students. This breakfast will allow parents to drop off their kindergartner, report to the terrace, network with other parents and act as a support for each other.

 

Aug. 24

Morgan County Celebration Arena will have a National Barrel Horse Association barrel race Aug. 24. Gate fee is $4 per adult. Children 6 and under are free. Sixty-second exhibitions will be from 2-5 p.m. with a cost of $4 per run. Show will begin after 5 p.m. Entry fees are $5 for peewee barrels, $20 for youth and adult/senior 4-D and $35 for open 4-D.

 

Aug. 25

The Hartselle High School football team will have its opening football game Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at J.P. Cain Stadium.

Aerobics classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday at the Sparkman Civic Center, at 8 a.m. This class is taught by Mellonie Chappell and is for all ages. It’s the perfect opportunity to lose a few pounds and gain new friends at the same time. The fee is $25 per month or $10 per visit. The first class is free.

 

Senior Nutrition Center: Are you age 60 or older and think you would enjoy mystery trips, monthly birthday parties, hymn book singing, puzzles, card games, listening to live performances of country legend songs and more? Then the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for you! Along with these fun filled activities, a nutritious meal is also served. The suggested daily donation is $1.25. The Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in the community with mental and physical disabilities. They also support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham. Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center. Priceville Palace hosts a Big Band Swing with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band are featured. Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the basement of First Christian Church on East Main Street. It is open to all who are interested in quilt making. The guild is focused on beginning quilt makers to help them learn how to make a new block each month and new techniques used to make them. Head Over Heels Tumbling: Attention gymnasts. Sign up for the beginning tumbling class to start you on your way. Tumbling class meets every Thursday afternoon at the Sparkman Civic Center. Ages 2-5 meet at 4 p.m. Ages 6-10 meet at 5:15, and ages 11 and older meet at 6:30 p.m. The fee is $40 per month.
