Farmers Federation holds annual meeting
Morgan County Farmers Federation held its annual meeting at Sparkman Civic Center in Hartselle Friday night with an estimated 200 members in attendance.
President Mark Byrd served as emcee.
Members reelected Mickey Childers, Ted Grantland, Hal Lee and Doug Wigginton as board members.
The federation awarded $1,500 college scholarships to Kana Adkins and Dustin Brown, both Brewer High School graduates, and Haley Crutcher, a graduate of Danville High. The Women’s Committee awarded $1,000 scholarships to Amy Anders, a graduate of Hartselle High and Lindsey Goodner, a graduate of Brewer High.
Crutcher was also honored as the Federation’s Vo-Ag Student of the Year.
Jimmy Varnell, state president, spoke briefly, emphasizing the importance of educating today’s consumers on the role agriculture plays in the state’s economy.
He pointed out that agriculture is Alabama’s No. 1 industry with the sale of forestry products leading the way.
More that 100 door prizes were awarded to members and homemade ice cream was served after the meeting adjourned.
