Danville-Neel Elementary is currently holding a “penny fundraiser” for the school. Anyone who has extra pennies at home please bring them to the school and help support the students and their programs.
The Morgan County teachers, principals, and staff have an Institute preceding, the opening day of school for students. On Aug. 16, the group met at Somerville Baptist Church. Also attending were members of the county school board, Morgan County commission, several local and state elected officials, parents and school supporters.
High school students were chosen to introduce their principals and teachers. They have exhibited leadership ability and public speaking skills in school activities.
Slater Robinson was selected to introduce Danville’s group. Slater is active in clubs and class projects, and is on the football, basketball and baseball teams and participates in track. He is the son of Darryl and Marla Robinson of Danville.
The family and friends of Jimmy and Kay McCarley enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary celebration on Sat., Aug. 24 at Lebanon Baptist Church. Their Falkville High School classmates also appreciated the opportunity to visit.
The Hardin family reunion, which was scheduled to be held Sun., Aug. 25, at the Massey Fire Station, was cancelled due to illness. Plans are being made to meet on Sun., Sept.15.
New Life Church on West Lacon Road had special music on Sun., Aug. 18 , at the 11 a.m. worship service. Pianist Monica Higginbotham, Charles Howse, Vivian Summerford, Herman Hardin and Phillip Hardin, the pastor, sang. Tony Johnson was the speaker for the morning service on Aug. 25.
Charles Holladay’s group sang at Summerford Nursing Home on Sun., Aug. 25. Everyone enjoyed singing from old hymnbooks.
Falkville High School’s class of 1952 met for breakfast at Libby’s in Priceville on Sat., Aug. 24.
Danville Junior High’s yearbooks are being distributed now. and senior high yearbooks will be available in mid-September.
Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express love and sympathy to the following families: Tab and Sheila Terrell, in the death of her sister, Joyce Ann Amerson, James and Sandra Roden and Mack and Evon Vest in the death of their brother-in-law, Waymon Hensley and to Elnora Morris in the death of her brother-in-law, Estus McKee.
Love and sympathy goes out to the family of Derrill Tomblin of Andrews Chapel community, who passed away Mon., Aug. 26.
McKendree United Methodist Church had a potluck supper Wed., Aug. 28. After the meal, children were in Bible study with Stephanie Crawley, and the youth met in the library with leader, Kevin Crawley.
The Men’s and women’s group met in the Flora Aycock classroom for their study of the book of Acts, led by Bro. Mike Vest. A special women’s group met with Lynn Hogan for their study.
The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church remember in loving memory this week, Grace Taylor (8-8-1907 – 6-13-2009) and Mike Holbert (8-21-1957 – 8-8-1994).
Danville Middle School’s 8th grade football team played their jamboree game at Brewer High School on Mon., Aug. 26 against the Patriots and lost,14-13.
On Thurs., Aug. 29, Danville Middle School played Randolph at Danville and on Aug. 30, the varsity team played Randolph in Huntsville.
