Shady Grove Baptist Church to hold blood drive

Shady Grove Baptist Church will be hosting a blood drive Sun., Sept. 22, from 1 to 5 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to support the blood drive and please remember that the life you save could be your own or a family member or a friend.

Special belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to my friends, Betty and Dale Boyd who celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary Wed., Sept. 4. Congratulations Betty and Dale and may God bless you with many more happy years of good health with God’s blessings.

Wishes for feeling better soon go out to Jerry Haynes who had surgery recently. He formerly sang with the Fairview Five group and has replaced Bob Jacques on the Glory Road Quartet.

Fans, singers and musicians of gospel singings will enjoy the Mt. Vernon Independent Methodist Church singing in Cullman County Sun., Sept. 22. The music will begin at 10 a.m., followed by lunch in the fellowship hall at noon. The singing will resume at 1 p.m. Linda Walker is the chairperson for the event.

On Sun., Sept. 8, the Speer Family Memorial Singing was held at Old Houston Baptist Church near Addison. The all-day event was from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Speer Family is well known for its song writing, musicians and singers. Several of them are in the Bill Gaither Classic Gospel programs and in concerts nationwide and international as well. The Speers live in the Houston community, and those who live away attended the singing on Sunday, with the locals.

Christian love and heartfelt prayers go out to Mark Haywood who is fighting cancer and taking chemotherapy again. He has returned to the home of his sister, Patsy Haywood, in Hartselle after being in Decatur General Hospital. Traci Slate, former owner of Weekdays Deli is also his sister and takes Mark for his treatments.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Sydney Alred, Kim Roberts and Valerie Byrd, all on Sept. 1, Betty Depreast on Sept. 2, Beth Gray on Sept.3, Lynne Smith and Chuck Holder on Sept.4, Lillie Livingston on Sept. 5, Ruby Lacy on Sept. 7, Reagan Crumley on Sept.9, Reese Terry on Sept.10. Happy birthday wishes also go out to Nick Prater on Sept. 13 and Evon Vest on Sept. 15.

The New Life God’s Church in the Fairview community on West Lacon Road had morning worship service at 11 a.m. on Sun., Sept. 1. The pastor is Phillip Hardin. He is from the community. The associate pastor is Tony Johnson of Hartselle. The pianist was Craig Hardin and the special music for the service was presented by Charles Howse. The church is newly organized and they are planning a cleanup day. They are also going to start a Sunday school program. One of the church youth leaders is Emily Forth. There will be a Wednesday night Bible study at 6 p.m. and a Sunday evening service at 5 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.

Special belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week for Keith and Kim Roberts as they celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on Sept. 5, and for Jamie and Alyson Robertson as they celebrated their first wedding anniversary on Sept. 8.

Special happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week for Willie and Charlice LaFavor who will celebrate their 21st wedding anniversary Thur., Sept. 12, Jeremy and Cary Lacy who will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary Fri., Sept. 13, and Danny and Connie Wallace who will observe their 34th anniversary Sun., Sept. 15.

McKendree United Methodist Women will meet at Oh! Bryan’s restaurant in Hartselle Thurs., Sept. 19, at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and a meeting. The unit only meets quarterly now. The women are getting a U.M.W. mission memorial card for deceased member Jean Lawrence. The card will be presented to her daughter, Linda Huskey.

Carolyn Besnyl of Massey enjoyed a Labor Day lunch with her extended family at the home of Terry and Jerry Boyd in Decatur. Jerry’s father, Danny Caddell, was also celebrating his birthday. Randy Besnyl, Dwayne and Mandy Roper, Matthew Roper, Noah and Laura Boyd and Janice Boyd enjoyed attending. Rebekah and Robert Mobley, Daniel Mobley and Carolyn Standridge were to visit later in the day.

On Sun., Sept. 8, Daniel Mobley was christened and Carolyn Standridge was baptized at Huntsville United Methodist Church at the 8:30 a.m. worship service. Carolyn Besnyl and Terry Boyd attended. They are Carolyn’s great-grandchildren.

Corinth West Baptist Church members enjoyed grilled pork, chicken and beef with beans, salads and desserts at the fellowship hall on Sun., Sept. 1, at 5 p.m. Jeff Reid prepared the pork and Brother Glenn Miller the other barbecue. Corinth’s women’s group met at 10 a.m. on Sept. 1 for their business meeting and refreshments. Dawn Shedd and Christie Guthrie were in charge of the food. Christi Hunter gave the devotional. They planned the Sunday night supper earlier and planned the senior citizen lunch menu, program and Bingo for Tues., Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. The Women are also packing shoeboxes for needy children ages 5-9 for third world countries for Christmas.
