Aaron Davis breaks top-10 hurdle

Hartselle High School senior Aaron Davis put the Hartselle High School cross country track team on his back in a big way on Saturday as he raced to a top 10 finish in the Silver Division of the15th Annual Jesse Owens Classic.

Davis ran the 5K race in 17:05.52 and a came in ninth in a field of 296 runners, many of who represented elite Class 5-6A track program in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.

His run helped the boys team finish 15th among 43 teams.

His teammate Jon Paulsen finished 36th with a time of 17:50.15. Five other Hartselle runner finished the race with times ranging from 18:45.26 to 22:15.08.

In the girl’s Silver Division, Abigail Davis finished 24th with a time of 20:50.47 and Taylor Barnett came in 73rd with a time of 22:52.09. The team finished 19th in a field of 31.

“Our times were pretty good overall and it was great to see Aaron (Davis) break into the top ten in a major event,” said Hartselle High track coach Kenny Lopez. “

“We’re still missing two girls who are recovering from injuries,” he added. Hopefully, we’ll have them back in two weeks.

Hartselle will compete at Point Mallard on Saturday.
