Danville falls in semifinals of Tournament of Champions

Danville’s Lady Hawks claimed runner-up honors in both pool play and lost in the semifinals of the Gold Division tournament as host team in the Danville Tournament of Champions Saturday.

Class 3A No. 1 Bayside defeated Class 1A No. 1 Addison 25-18, 28-26 to capture first place in the Gold division and Walker got by Muscle Shoals 23-25, 25-16, 15-3 to take championship honors in the silver division.

Twenty teams competed in the tournament. Visiting teams included Bayside, Hatton, Cordova, Madison Academy, Deshler, Meek, Holy Spirit, Addison, Brewer, Muscle Shoals, JPII Catholic, Montgomery Academy, West End, Lexington, Austin, Arab, West Morgan, Winston County and Walker.

No. 4 Danville defeated Hatton 25-17, 28-26 and Cordova 25-12, 25-15 and lost to Bayside 15-25 ,25-16,15-8 in Pool A.

Sydni Shelton paced the Lady Hawks in scoring in the three matches with 37 kills, 17 digs and four aces. Kheala Roberts had 25 kills, 18 digs and two blocks, Charlee Anderson scored 61 assists and six aces, Sloan Lindsey had 13 digs and Kellee Stiles added four aces.

In tournament play, Danville defeated Deshler 25-15, 25-27, thumped Arab 25-15, 25-16 in the quarterfinals while losing to Addison 25-23, 19-25, 15-8 in the semifinals.

In tournament play, Shelton paced the Lady Hawks in scoring with 46 kills end 22 digs. Roberts had 29 kills, five aces and four blocks, Anderson had 71 assists, and 16 digs, Andrea Carter scored two blocks, Jada Harris collected six blocks and Stiles had 36 digs and nine aces.

No. 3 Brewer went 1-1 in tournament play Saturday. They defeated Class 3A No. 3 West Morgan 15-25, 25-23, 15-8. Class 2A No. 1 Montgomery Academy defeated the Lady Patriots 25-17, 21-25, 15-12.

Lady Hawks win tri-match at home

Danville’s Lady Hawks (23-12) picked up two big wins in a volleyball tri-match at home Tuesday night.

They defeated Madison Academy 25-17, 22-15, 17-15 and Winston County 25-20, 15-25, 17-15.

For both matches, Sydni Shelton collected 41 kills and three blocks, Kheala Roberts had 17 kills, 24 digs and three blocks, Charlee Anderson scored 55 assists and 15 digs, Kellee Stiles had three blocks and Jada Harris added two blocks.

Lady Hawks split tri-match at home

Danville’ s Lady Hawks (21-12) defeated Hatton 25-20, 25-24 and lost to Brewer 21-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 15-11 in volleyball tri-match Monday night.

Against the Lady Patriots, Sydni Shelton paced Danville in scoring with 13 kills, and 10 digs. Kheala Roberts had nine kills and two blocks, Breann Tuck collected 14 assists, Charlee Anderson scored nine assists, Jada Harris had three blocks, Andrea Carter had two blocks and three aces; Kellee Stiles had five digs and Sloan Lindsey had five digs and two aces.

In the Brewer game, Shelton had 18 kills and 17 digs, Roberts collected 21 kills and three blocks and Anderson had 42 assists, 10 digs and three aces.
