Community Calendar for Oct. 10

Oct. 10

The annual Hartselle High School Battle of the Classes will take place Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the school gym. Parents and friends are encouraged to come and cheer on your favorites. Admission is $3.

Falkville High School will have an American Red Cross blood drive sponsored by the SGA in the Drake Gym, located at 43 Clark Dr., Falkville, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Oct. 11

Kids Council meetings will be held every third Tuesday of the month at the civic center at 6 p.m. Kids, let your voices be heard! The council consisting of two students from each elementary school, the intermediate and junior high school, will help Parks and Recreation event staff brainstorm for new ideas concerning events and programs for area youth. Interested students should turn in completed applications no later than Oct. 11. Contact civic center for more information.

The annual Hartselle High School Homecom-ing pep rally will be held in the gymnasium Oct. 11 at 2:15 p.m.

The Hartselle Tigers battle West Point in a Class 5A, Area 8 matchup for HHS’s homecoming football game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime. Special honored guests that evening will be members of the Classes of 1964 and 1993, who are celebrating reunions.

Oct. 12

Country rock band Kentucky Headhunters will be the headlining act at the Falkville Fall Festival set for Oct. 12. Sponsored by the Falkville Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Falkville, the annual celebration features an antique tractor show, car show and other activities in addition to live music. A pancake breakfast at the Fire Department kicks off the event at 7 a.m. The car show and tractor show follow at 8 a.m. with arts and crafts vendors, bingo, inflatable fun for children and food vendors set up throughout the day. The Fire Department will host a cake auction at noon. Music lineup includes local artist Jeff Whitlow and the Old Barn Band at 11 a.m. and The Kentucky Headhunters at 1 p.m. The event wraps up around 3 p.m. Admission is free. Decatur Morgan Hospital is hosting a Lee Lott Power of Pink Walk, Sat. Oct. 12, at 9 a.m., at the Morgan County Courthouse on Lee Street. It’s a one-mile walk for breast cancer awareness in memory of Christine Pendley. For  info, call 256-341-2187.

A fundraiser for Dusty Cook and his family of Brooksville will be held at Gurley’s Soggy Bottom Music Barn in Florette on Sat., Oct., 12, beginning at 3 p.m.  Mr. Cook lost a leg in a traffic accident. Oct. 15

Hartselle Boys Basket-ball registration will be every Tuesday in October from 6 to 8 p.m. The registration fee is $60 for ages 6-12 and $65 for ages 13-14.

Oct. 18

Friday night fun at the civic center will begin Oct. 18, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and continue as a monthly event held every third Friday of the month. Kids ages 5-10 will be divided into age divisions and we will have age appropriate games for each group. Snacks will be provided. Please register and pay the $10 fee by the Monday before the event.

“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®” will be held in front of the second floor entrance to the Morgan County Courthouse Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate with men in high heels leading the way. The Danville Football Boosters are sponsoring a chicken stew sale at Danville Baptist Church, Sat., Oct. 19. Bring your own jug. Stew is $25 a gallon. Call the church for more information.

Oct. 21

Oct. 22

All grandpa’s are invited to showcase their talents Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. during Hartselle Parks and Recreation’s Grandpa’s Got Talent show. To register for the meal, contact your local senior center. To register for the talent show contact the civic center. Admission is free!

The annual Hartselle Historical Society meeting will be at Sedona Steakhouse Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. The program will be presented by Lee Greene, Jr. It will be an update about the Woodall Bridge Civil War Scrimmage.

Students in Hartselle City Schools will receive their report cards Oct. 24.

Oct. 25

The Auxiliary of American Legion Post 52 will host a spaghetti lunch as a fundraising project on Fri., Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu consists of spaghetti, drink and toast for $8. Oct. 26

Hartselle Chamber of Commerce presents the 2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest, Sat., Oct. 26 from 9 to 11 a.m. at E.A.R.T.H. Park in Hartselle. It is sponsored by Jenny’s Boarding and Kennel and Doggie Daycare. It is $10 to enter each pumpkin. Proceeds will go to the John Marks Stallings Special Needs Accessible Playground. Categories will be most creative, most traditional, spookiest, funniest, most team spirit and People’s Choice, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Bring carving tools, pumpkins must be carved on site.

The Youth Halloween Masquerade and dance will be Oct. 26 from 7 to 10 p.m. There  will be a costume contest and dance for students from 5th to 8th grade, from any school district. Admission is $5 per person. Costumes will be judged on originality, creativity and best overall theme. No full face masks will be allowed. Chaperones will be needed, call by Oct. 21 to help.

Oct. 31

Hartselle Junior High School is having a fall festival/trunk-or-treat, which will be held Oct. 31 prior to the Hartselle vs. Austin football game. The activities and candy are free. We are inviting all community businesses and churches that wish to participate to come setup candy tents/trunks and distribute candy. Daystar Church is providing inflatables and a couple of rides. HJHS will have a Swamp John’s dinner for $10/plate. Drinks and desserts will be sold separately. The Swamp Johns plates pre-orders are being taken right now by HJHS students. Walk-ins are welcome.

Spooktacular Shindig Oct. 31, at 5 p.m. at the youth soccer fields on Groover Road. We will be hosting a Trunk or Treat in conjunction with the final family movie night in the park. The movie Hocus Pocus will begin at 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for best decorated trunk and best costume. For more information contact the civic center at 256-773-2581.

The Birthday Bash at the civic center offers a birthday party theme to suit your child. The fee is $100, for 12 guests, ages 5 and older. It includes a party room, two coordinators, simple decorations and games. Party days are Monday – Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., or Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Yoga class will meet at the civic center every Thursday at 6 p.m. The fee is $25 per month.

The Hartselle Hope AL-Anon Family Group, located at 527 Sparkman St. in Hartselle, meets Mondays at 8 p.m., Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m., Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Ala-Teen Family Group meets Fridays at 7 p.m. For more information, call 1-888-425-0775.

AARP Chapter 1831 meets the first Tuesday of every month except July, at the Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, located 721 Pickens St. SW in Hartselle, at 10 a.m.

Falkville VFW, 784 Culver Road, will host bingo, every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 256-784 5747.

Dale Serrano Dance Studio will meet on Monday nights at the civic center. Instructors will strive to supply children not only the foundation of dance, but with tools for life. For more information, call 205-822-6378 .

Weight Watcher classes meet on Monday nights, weigh-in at 5, meeting at 5:30 p.m. The fee is $13 per week. For more information, call Weight Watcher at 1-800-651-6000.

Aerobics classes are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Sparkman Civic Center, at 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. This class is taught by Mellonie Chappell and is for all ages. It’s the perfect opportunity to lose a few pounds and gain new friends at the same time. The fee is $25 per month or $10 per visit.

Senior Nutrition Center, also known as the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. We operate from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday and have been known to jump on an evening supper bus now and then. The Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities.  They also support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham.  Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.  Along with Woodmen of the World, they also do the Avenue of Flags along U.S. 31 in Hartselle.  For more info., contact secretary Rita Sims at 256-773-5904.

Priceville Palace hosts a Big Band Swing with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band is featured. A free couples dance class is held on the first and third Saturdays from 6 to 7 p.m. You do not have to have a partner to participate. For more information, call 256-353-4362.

All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2214 hosts a dance every Tuesday from 7-10 p.m. at 112 Veterans Drive in Cullman with the “Always Country Band” featuring Jerrold Burns from Country Boy Eddie’s Band. Admission is $4. For information, call 796-9111.

Hartselle Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at noon at Sedona Steak House.

Hartselle’s Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon at Sedona Steak House.

Country Music and Dance- Put on your boots and kick up your heels every first and third Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at Sparkman Civic Center. Hack Ward and the Good Time Country Band will be performing some of your favorite country songs. Admission is $5 per person. Concession will also be available.

The Morgan County Humane Society meets on the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Priceville United Methodist Church, across from Priceville High School. For more information, call 256-778-9709.

Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the basement of First Christian Church on East Main Street. It is open to all who are interested in quilt making, The guild is focused on beginning quilt makers to help them learn how to make a new block each month and new techniques used to make them. Baton class at Sparkman Civic Center is $40 per month.  Learn the basics of twirl on Thursdays at 4 p.m.  Students must be 5 years old and have her own baton.

Head Over Heels Tumbling:  Attention gymnasts. Sign up for the beginning tumbling class to start you on your way.  Tumbling class meets every Thur. afternoon at the Sparkman Civic Center from 5 to 6 p.m. The fee is $40 per month.
