I wanted to take time in this space this week to thank you for letting me be a part of your local community newspaper for the last 11 years. When I started a new career in September of 2002, I was not exactly sure with what I was getting myself involved.

Many times in life, we never exactly find our niche or the place where you really feel that you have been called, and where you need to be to make the best contribution to your family, friends and neighbors. I will say that I feel this is where I need to be at this time, and I do appreciate the opportunity I have been given to be a part of this newspaper.

I have been blessed to work with some great people over the years, both inside the office and those who support our newspaper in other parts of our parent company. It really does take a village to get everything accomplished, to publish a newspaper or magazine. However, one of the best things about working at this newspaper has been the opportunity to meet and be involved with so many of our local folks. From business owners and leaders, political folks, church leaders and members, all those involved in education and especially those who make our hometowns the great place to live that they are. People are what a community is about and meeting and working with so many great people has really enriched my life.

Also, I thank you for letting me share my random thoughts each week in the newspaper. When I started writing a column almost three years ago, I was not sure I could keep it up each week, or most importantly, that anyone would even want to read what I had written. However, thanks to the many kind words I have received, it makes me want to do an even better job each week.

In the newspaper industry, we are celebrating “National Newspaper Week” and this was an appropriate time to add these few words to you – our readers and advertisers. Without you – our loyal supporters, we would not be able to continue the news products and share with you the happenings in our local communities, towns and cities. Regardless of whether you receive our products in print or online, we are grateful that you allow us to be a part of your lives. We also so appreciate our advertisers who choose to spend their dollars promoting their businesses within our media products. Thanks again, and God bless!
