In a war of the unbeatens, the No. 6 Falkville scored the first 20 points of the second half to defeat No. 4 Addison 34-20 after trailing at the half for the first time this season.

The difference was Falkville’s Ryan Sullivan, who managed 324 of the 399 total offensive yards.

Sullivan was 11 for 19 passing with one touchdown and 115 yards. Sullivan was also a threat on the ground with 24 carries for 209 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Falkville scored right out of the gate, taking advantage of an Addison miscue on the opening kickoff. Falkville’s Bryant Hester returned the fumble 12 yards for a touchdown 11 seconds into the game. Sullivan added the extra point.

FHS scored again in the first quarter with 11 seconds left in the first quarter on their first true offensive drive. Sullivan finished the 13-play, 82-yard drive spanning 5:39 with a two-yard keeper. FHS led 13-0 going into the second quarter after the extra point was blocked.

The next 12 minutes belonged to the Bulldogs. At the 8:27 mark, Kolby Kirk scored on a 18-yard carry and Taylor Wilson added the extra point.

They scored again less than six minutes later, following a five-yard keeper from Wilson. His extra point was true, as Falkville trailed at halftime for the first time this season 14-13.

FHS came out the second half a different shade of blue. After a 66-yard run by Sullivan, the Blue Devils had the ball on the Bulldog four-yard line.

FHS scored two plays later on a four-yard keeper by Sullivan, who executed the sneak on the two-point conversion to give Falkville a 21-14 advantage over Addison. The Blue Devils would lead the rest of the game, but not without a fight.

Sullivan found Austin Wilhite on a 20-yard pass play for a touchdown with 2:31 to play in the third quarter.

Going into the fourth quarter leading 27-14, fans, players and coaches alike raised four fingers into the air proclaiming their plan to finish the game victoriously. They did just that.

Falkville scored at the 8:53 mark of the fourth working with a short field and after only four plays. Sullivan ran the ball 42 yards on the keeper for the touchdown. His extra point was true and FHS sent the lead 34-14.

Addison roared back and got on the board two minutes later with 6:38 to play. Stemming off a FHS fumble, Addison cut the lead to 34-20 on John Everett’s one-yard touchdown run.

Big drives by Addison in the last five minutes saw multiple touchdown saving plays, one by Aaron Estes who swatted a touchdown pass at the one-yard line and the next by Tyler Woodall who intercepted a Bulldog pass to put the ball back into the hands of the good guys in blue.

Zach Garrison and Shawn Mears both finished with seven tackles. Tyler and Hunter Woodall each added six. Tyler Woodall and Estes both swatted three passes throughout the night.

Hunter Woodall had 49 all-purpose yards on the night. Austin Kritner pulled down four catches for 27 yards. Wilhite added a 20-yard reception for a touchdown. Devin Reed and Estes each pulled down a pass on the night as well.

FHS will travel to Ragland next Friday night for the opportunity to win a region championship.
