The Hanceville Bulldogs used a strong running game to defeat the Danville Hawks by a score of 41-7 last Friday night in Danville.
Bulldog running back Brontae Harris (189 yards) and B.J. Smalls (116 yards) did much of the damage with each scoring a touchdown. Smalls’ touchdown on an 11-yard run to give Hanceville a 20-0 lead in the second quarter while Harris’ 40-yard run midway through the third put the Bulldogs up 34-0.
Hanceville took control early, driving 71 yards in six plays on its opening possession. Blake Miller got the touchdown on a 22-yard run.
Miller also ended the scoring for Hanceville, going in from one-yard out to put the Bulldogs up 41-0 with just under eight minutes left in the game. Hanceville’s other scores came on a five-yard run and an 11-yard pass.
After falling behind 7-0, the Danville Hawk offense put together an impressive drive but turned the ball over on downs at the Hanceville 12. On the drive, Hawk QB Colton McCay completed five of six passes for 59 yards.
Slater Robinson (36 yards) and Jason Haynes (13 yards) each had two receptions while Kyle Evans caught one pass for 10 yards.
Danville’s touchdown came with 4:36 left in the fourth period on a five-yard Peyton Colburn run. Logan Jaep added the PAT to make the score 41-7 in favor of Hanceville.
Jackson Locklear set the touchdown up as he ran the ball down the right sideline for a gain of 44 yards. Two plays later Colburn scored.
Danville will play its final region contest of the season when the Hawks host the Hamilton Aggies Friday night at Smith-Owens Stadium.
