CES carnival kicks off Halloween week

Crestline Elementary School’s PTO is planning several eye-catching additions to its lineup of activities for this year’s fall carnival fundraiser.

The event will be held Sat., Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A haunted maze will offer a scary adventure for carnival goers in the commons area and a pumpkin patch will sell pumpkins and provide supplies needed to decorate jack-o-lanterns on site.

A change is also in store for the poplar silent auction. Instead of gift baskets being put up for bid, individual items donated by businesses will be offered. They include a one-day ticket for four to Disney World, an American Girl doll and Tennessee Titan memorabilia.

Many other activities, including the popular cake walk and barbecue sandwiches, will be available in the school’s two gyms, cafeteria and on the school grounds.

“Children and parents alike will enjoy the many fun activities we have planned,” said Jennifer Weddington, PTO vice president and carnival chairperson. “We invite everyone to come out and enjoy themselves.”

She said part of the proceeds will be earmarked for a new digital school sign and the remainder will go beck into the classroom for technology upgrades and other classroom needs.

Other local Halloween-related events include the following:

  • Sparkman School will host its annual fall festival on Thur., Oct. 24, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Featured activities include a haunted ISS Building, classroom gift basket auction, meal deals in the lunchroom, cake walk and a drawing for a $500 Walmart gift certificate.
  • Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its 2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest Sat, Oct. 26, from 9 to 11 a.m. at E.A.R.T.H. Park. The entry fee is $10. Proceeds will go to the John Mark Stallings Special Needs Accessible Playground (SNAP) project.
  • Hartselle Junior High School will host a fall festival/trunk-or-treat and Swamp Johns dinner Thurs., Oct. 31, prior to the Hartselle vs. Austin football game. Local businesses are invited to participate in the trunk or treat, Daystar Church will provide inflatables for the kids and Swamp Johns dinners will be available for $10 each.
  • Hartselle Parks & Recreation Department will host a Spooktacular Shindig Thurs., Oct. 31, at the youth soccer fields on Groove Road. Featured will be a trunk-or-treat and a showing of the movie “Hocus Pocus.”
