Pastor Harbin finds Hartselle ideal homePublished 12:49pm Wednesday, October 23, 2013
Athens native Jeremy Harbin and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) bonded the first time he set foot in the historic building.
“My wife Mandy and I were working with some Christian Churches in North Alabama and we came to Hartselle for a meeting,” he explained. “As soon as we stepped inside the church we fell in love with it and felt that one day we would be here.”
“It’s God’s calling and it’s always been that way,” he pointed out.
Harbin entered the ministry in 2007 and was serving Union Christian Church in Tuskegee when he answered the call to pastor First Christian Church in Hartselle in April 2011.
“We love Hartselle,” Harbin said. “I remember as a kid we’d stop at Dari-Delite for a snack.” We’re thrilled that our boys have the opportunity to grow up in a nice, quiet, conservative community.”
Harbin said his vision for First Christian Church is to see it grow and enhance its reputation as a friendly church where everyone is welcome to come for worship.
“This building captures the spirit of the history and the future of our community,” Harbin stated. “It’s a treasure that we get to take care of. There’s Harbin is a graduate of Athens State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English. He is also a graduate of the Missouri School of Religion and is currently working on a master’s degree at Auburn University in Montgomery.
