Shady Grove Baptist to host trunk ‘n’ treat

Shady Grove Baptist Church will host Trunk-n-Treat activities on Thur., Oct. 31, at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to bring their vehicles, decorate their trunks and be ready for the trick-or-treaters. There will be chili and all the trimmings in the fellowship hall.

Chris Warnick, director of the Carpenters Cabinet Food Bank in Falkville, expresses thanks to all those who helped with the decorations and all the volunteers who worked on Sat., Oct. 12, at the Falkville Fall Festival. The food bank helps needy families in the Hartselle, Falkville, Massey and Danville communities. Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week for James Bibb and Beth McCaghren on Oct. 21. Happy birthday wishes also go out this week for Janet Reynolds on Oct. 25.

Joe and Rachel Slate of Hartselle and Martha Jackson enjoyed a trip on Wed., Oct. 16, to the Birmingham Zoo. While there, they enjoyed lunch at the Kudzoo Cafe and the viewing all of the animals.

The zoo is open Monday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is really well managed and a very enjoyable place to visit.

Corinth West Baptist Church hosted a senior citizens lunch and bingo on Tues., Oct. 15. Belinda Ricks was in charge of the meal of pork roast and vegetables, salads and desserts. Anita Reid was in charge of bingo prizes. Gaynell Wilhite called the game. The next meeting will be in November with turkey and trimmings. The date will be announced later.

Corinth West Baptist also will host a community wide Thanksgiving service and meal on Sun., Nov. 24, preceding Thanksgiving Day. This includes the following churches: Mt. Vernon Methodist, Corinth and Piney Grove Methodist, Macedonia Baptist, Corinth Church of Christ and Church of God and Pleasant View Holy Church of Christ.

The Pastor of Falkville United Methodist Church, Dr. John Russell, had this Inspirational thought for the week of Oct. 13-20: “The closer you walk with God the less room there is for anything to come between.” Brother Russell thanked all those who brought hay, cornstalks, gourds, squash pumpkins, corn, mums, leaves, vine wreaths, fruit and cornucopia for the fall festival decorations in front of the church. The church placed first in the display contest hosted by the town of Falkville.

The scripture for Sun., Oct. 13, was Psalm 66:5,” Come and see God’s deeds: His works for human beings are awesome.” The morning worship service was presented by women from the Dream Center in Decatur. This is a drug rehabilitation and spiritual facility, associated with Calvary Assembly of God. These women also spoke to Falkville United Methodist Church youth on Wed., Oct. 9. On Wed., Oct. 16, Pastor John Russell had Bible study at the church at 6:35 p.m. and on Friday morning, Oct. 18, at the Dixie’s Diner in Hartselle. Kim Upton, manager-owner, also heads up the drugs rehab program, Milestones.

Special belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Dale and Shirley Bibb as they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on Oct. 21. Wonderful happy wedding anniversary wishes go out to Dwayne and Joyce Moore as they celebrate their 26th anniversary on Oct. 24.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church remember in loving memory this week the following: Ruby Evans McCay from March 15, 1919 – Sept. 4, 2013, Rachel Collins McCag-hren from Oct. 2, – May 4, 2000, Miranda “Mandy” Lacy from Oct. 7,1983 – June 21, 2012 and Emma Mullican Pike from Oct. 28, 1914 to Aug. 12, 2005.

Christian love and heartfelt prayers go out this week for Mark Haywood, Traci Haywood Slate, Milton Slate, Jackie McCaig Sharp, Betty Holmes and Polly Holmes, a new resident at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville.

Jenny Asherbranner, Falkville librarian, and the library board, thank all those who bought books at the sale on Sat., Oct. 12, at the fall festival. They really appreciate the town’s support. The library still has books for sale.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church are still collecting items for the Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes.

They are in need of small toys, school supplies, hygiene items and other items as well.
