Blackout highlights PHS basketball
Basketball was given center stage at Priceville High School as parents and fans filled the school’s gym to cheer on the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs during a Bulldog Blackout observance Friday night.
Parents and players alike came dressed in black clothing and many wore dark sunglasses and necklaces with flashing lights.
A video presentation flashed candid photos of the players in both current and dated settings, drawing laughs and applause from the audience.
Cheerleaders formed a victory line and a spotlight was used to follow each player to center court as they were being introduced. Head coaches —varsity boys, varsity girls, JV boys and JV girls—spoke briefly about each team and challenged fans to come out and support the players during the season.
Afterwards, players played fun games, competed in a varsity boys vs. varsity girls three-point shooting contest and demonstrated trick shooting skills.
“Everybody likes the blackout,” said varsity boys head coach Darrell Haynes. “It gives us the opportunity to introduces the players to parents and fans and gives the players the opportunity to have some fun and shine under the spotlight.
