On Tues., Oct. 8, Joe Wheeler officers Bettye Moore, Rita Birdsong, Judy Blackwell, Glendora James and Linda Edwards shared lunch with Nell Canada and Dorothy Sipes at their Morningside residence in Decatur.

Mrs. Canada and Mrs. Sipes have over 75 years of combined service to the Joe Wheeler Chapter. Both served in various offices during these years with Mrs. Canada serving as president twice, 1983-1984 and 1994-1996. The ladies all enjoyed the afternoon.

The latest Chapter meeting was held on Oct.17 at Decatur City Library.

A White Elephant Sale was held and $304 was raised for the Division Flag Restoration Project. Chapter member Barbara Jenkins shared scrapbooks of her mother, Vivian Denny Smith, the chapter’s last actual real daughter. It contained cards and letters Mrs. Smith had received from UDC members all over the United States.

Rita Birdsong gave a very entertaining program on “The Girls of Arlington.” President Linda Edwards presented a new member certificate to Margaret Sibley.

Members Linda Edwards and Terri Dean will travel to Tulsa, Okla. in November to attend the General Convention. The next meeting will be held Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Decatur City Library.
