LETTER: Long time reader enjoys newspaper
Dear Editor,
This is one of your customers of way back. When I say way back, that just what I mean.
I am a little lady of 93 years old, too old to try to write to a newspaper. I’ll tell you a little bit about myself.
I grew up on a farm. I know all about what Mr. Knight, staff writer of your newspaper is always writing about.
My dad was a farmer. I married a man that farmed in 1942, Mr. O.B. Slater, in 5 months he was called to service. (Army) We were making a crop of cotton. He had to leave behind a wife and expecting baby.
He got wounded in Japan. They sent him home in September of 1946. Our little girl was two and a half years old. But Teeee? Bought 45 acres of land, paid it off, borrowed money, cut timber and had it sawed and built a home we were so proud of.
We had a son after that. My daughter is 70 now, and my son is 66 . They see that I am taken good care of.
I live alone. I have a nice lady that comes five days a week to help me out.
You see, I can’t see much to write. My time is spent watching the ball games, go Alabama and Auburn. Most of my family are Bama fans, some are Auburn. They all know I am an Alabama Fan.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy the paper and my Bible and church. God has been very good to me.
I enjoy all the paper, especially the Town Hall page, Mr. Brent Maze and Mr. Randy Garrison writes and also Mr. Knight, he sounds like one of my family. I know each week what he is talking about and it’s good to read it in the paper. Also, Bill Stewarts, A look back.
I hope you can read my writing. I have been wanting to do this for so long.
My past time is watching the TV and reading. My eyesight is getting so bad, I got new glasses. I think it could be old age, ha.
Any way if I have scribbled too much take it out.
Thanks to the Hartselle Enquirer Newspaper.
