Hartselle’s annual Christmas Parade is set to go, offering holiday cheer and fun for children and adults alike.

The colorful and popular event, which is sponsored by Hartselle Kiwanis Club, will take center stage on Thur., Dec. 12, at 7 p.m.

The viewing area will be Railroad Street from Hickory Street to Main Street and Main Street West to Corsbie Street. The parade will disband in the old Walmart parking lot.

An area in front of the Railroad depot will be reserved for handicapped viewers.

“We expect 80 to 100 units to register as parade participants,” said Hartselle Police Capt. Tom Sparks, parade chairman. “You can register online at www.hartsellekiwanisclub.org through Mon., Dec. 9.”

Entries will include amateur and professional floats, Hartselle High and Junior High School marching bands and antique cars and tractors, Santa will appear riding atop the city’s No. 1 fire engine. His helpers will follow closely with candy treat for children.

Floats depicting the theme, “Hawaiian Christmas, ” will be judged at 5 p.m. at the J. P. Cain Stadium parking lot. First, second and third place winners will be awarded cash prizes totaling $500.

All entries except bands, walking groups, pre-1988 vehicles and tractors will line up in the stadium parking lot. Bands and walking groups will line up at the Pettey Center and pre-1988 vehicles and tractors will line up at Russell Forest Products on Railroad Street.

State Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle, will serve as parade grand marshal.
