Mason’s shot lifts Priceville over Danville

Luke Mason made a shot at the buzzer to give the Priceville Bulldogs a 51-49 win over the home-standing Danville Hawks Monday night.

Patrick Doherty scored seven of Danville’s nine points in the fourth quarter to give Danville the lead. He led all scorers with 18 points.

Kaleb Barker tied it up with two minutes to go. After making a stop, the Bulldogs held the ball for the last minute plus. Malik Orr put up a shot a the five-second mark and missed.

Mason got the board and put it on the glass as the buzzer went off. The ball hit the rim and fell in.

There was no score in the game for 2 and half min. 5:38 on clock when Patrick Doherty opened up the score with a 3 pt shot for the Hawks. From that point on, the two teams caught fire as Danville led 19-18 at the end of the first quarter.

The second started just as slow for the Hawks, who suffered through a four-minute drought. Meanwhile, Priceville took control of the game and held a 32-27 advantage at the break.

Coming back from the half, the Hawk offense continued to struggle with Alan Cordova scoring points points in before Doherty nailed another 3-pointer with a minute to go in the third. Priceville still held a narrow 43-40 lead. Cordova finished with 17.

But Mason’s shot gave the Hawks their first home loss of the season. He finished the game with 12 points followed by Kyle Haynes with nine, Milik Orr with eight and Marc McClendon with seven.

Rounding out the scoring for Danville were Andres Cordova with five and Kyle ALexander, Brandon McCorminck and Isaiah Moore with three each.
