Arson ruled in Danville fire

Arson was the cause of the fire that destroyed Danville Fire Station #2 Friday morning.

The determination was made by State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk based on evidence he and other investigators discovered in the building early this week.

“The state Fire Marshal’s assistance was requested by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department after it initiated an investigation on the day of the fire.” Holmes stated. “Subsequently, it was determined that the fire was intentionally set. “ I’m not at liberty to discuss the evidence but I can say that the investigation is continuing with the help of the ATF and local authorities. We have no suspect at this time.”

Holmes asked for the public’s help in the investigation. Anyone having information about the fire is encouraged to call the Alabama Arson Hotline at 800-6754-0775 or submit an anonymous tip online at firemarshal.alabama.gov.

The fire station and equipment were insured. Insurance adjusters are currently assessing damage, according to Danville Fire Capt. Jason Fields.
