AARP Chapter #1831 celebrates Christmas at meeting
Chapter #1831 of AARP held its regular monthly meeting at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Pickens Street. Mrs. Sarsh Plemons was hostess for the meeting.
The room was decorated with angels, candy canes, poems and inspirational material on tables for a warm Christmas atmosphere.
President Mrs. Plemons welcomed the members with Christmas messages, “Why Jesus Came” from the book Heart Throbs by Burt Murphree and “On This Joyous Day” from a card by Bill Flanngan.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The financial report was made with the previous month’s balance given by treasurer Martin Conley.
A motion was made by Ms. Estelle Smith and seconded by Mrs. Laverne Stacks to keep present officers another year, The motion was approved.
Dues for the coming year were accepted by the treasurer. Printing program and directory books were discussed, allowing Ms. Bettye English to have them printed with the treasurer paying. This followed a motion by Ms. Phyliss Castile and a second by Ms. Venita Proctor. The vote was approved.
Door prizes were won by Ms. Smith, Ms. Stacks and Jack Betterton. Red Velvet cupcakes were won by Ms. Smith and Ms. Proctor. Mrs. Stacks will be hostess for the January meeting.
Toys for Tots were assorted for the two receiving organizations, Faith House and Caring Place and were delivered.
The group enjoyed musical hymns at the piano by Ms. Castile. Prayers and blessing for the meal was said by Ms. Castile.
