Two escape injury in Bethel St. wreck
Two Hartselle High School students walked away from a one-vehicle accident on Bethel Street Friday afternoon after their SUV veered out of control and smashed into a utility pole.
The impact split the pole and its top part fell through the vehicle’s windshield, stopping on top of the steering wheel. Air bags helped protect the driver and passenger from the shattered end of the pole.
The mishap occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. as traffic was moving from the Hartselle High campus. Two school buses were delayed on Bethel Street for several minutes while the accident was under investigation by Hartselle police officers.
