John Leroy Simmers Jr.

Funeral for John Leroy (the Boss) Simmers Jr., 32, of Somerville, AL will be Wed. (today), Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Simmers died Sun., Jan. 5, 2014, at his residence. He was born July 25, 1981 in Erie, Penn., to John Simmers Sr. and Gloria Rendulic Franklin. He was a disabled veteran, serving with the United States Army from 1998 to 2008 as a helicopter mechanic. He served in the fight for Iraqi freedom. He was a Baptist, a loved father, son, brother, uncle and great friend. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Francis Simmers.

He is survived by his wife; Melissa Darr, three sons; Tyler Washburg Simmers, John Simmers III, and Tippy Simmers; two daughters, Mikella Simmers and Leandra Darr; his mother, Gloria Franklin and stepfather John Wayne Franklin of Somerville; his father; John Simmers Sr. of McDonald, Tenn., his grandmother; Doris Papsun of Erie, Penn.; a brother; David Pulling (Angela) of Erie, Penn .; five sister; Tanya Jingleski (Adam) of New Castle, WY., Shannon Paul and (Chris) of Erie, Penn., Johnnie Jeffers of Hartselle, Melissa Habas of Erie, Penn. , Jennifer (Fur Fur) Truver of Panama, NY, and many nieces and nephews.
