Priceville teams defeat Danville
Priceville varsity boys and girls basketball teams pulled off impressive wins against Danville’s Hawks and Lady Hawks on their home court Saturday night.
Both games were hotly contested.
The Bulldogs (12-6) pulled away from the Hawks in the final period after trailing 12-13 after one period, 21-33 at halftime and 40-35 after three periods. Kyle Haynes hit one of his five three’s to give the Bulldogs a 44-43 lead with 6:13 left in the game. They went on to win 56-49.
The Lady Bulldogs (16-2) and Lady Hawks settled their battle in overtime. Priceville out-scored Danville 6-0 in the four-minute overtime to claim a 51-46 win. The score was 13-11 in Priceville’s favor after one period. Danville led by two points, 24-22, at halftime and Priceville was ahead by three, 33-30, after three periods.
Haynes led all scorers in the boys’ game with 23 points. Luke Mason followed with 15.
Kyle Alexander paced Danville with 16 points while Alan Cordova had 11 points.
“Our defensive effort was better in the second half,” said head coach Darrell Haynes,” and the offense fed off of that. “We had some big shots fall when the game was on the line.”
Alex Moore paced the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points. She also had 11 rebounds. Emilee Cunningham followed with 11 points and six rebounds, Peyton Parker had nine points, McKenzie Parker had five points and six rebounds and Jada Beverly added eight points.
Sydni Shelton scored 16 points for Danville while Charlee Anderson had 11.
“This is the third time we’ve played Danville this year,” said Lady Bulldogs head coach Terrie Nelson. “I told the girls it would be a tough game, but they hung in there and did what they had to do to win. They’re all fighters. That’s what I like best about this team.”
Priceville boys 75, Decatur Heritage 43
Three players scored in double figures for Priceville’s Bulldogs as they defeated Decatur Heritage, 75-43, on the road Friday night.
Luke Mason led the way with 18 points. John Williams added 14 points and Chandler Livingston had 10.
Jacob Crews paced Decatur Heritage with 18 points.
Priceville girls 58, Decatur Heritage 32
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and went on to defeat Decatur Heritage, 58-32, in a road game Friday night.
Priceville was ahead 38-10 at halftime.
Jada Beverly led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points. Ashley Quinn added 12 points and Brianna Guin had 11.
Decatur Heritage’s Maddie Vinton scored 12 points and Chandler Sparkman added 10.
