Community Calendar for Jan. 22

Jan. 22

The Morgan County High School Basketball Tourna­ment will be Jan. 20-25 at Hartselle High School.

Jan. 23

Hartselle High School will have an early release for students and professional development for teachers Jan. 23.

Jan. 27

The Hartselle City Council will have a work session Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. in the city hall auditorium.

The Priceville Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the town hall council chambers. A work session begins at 5:30 p.m.

Jan. 28

The Hartselle City Council will have its regular meeting Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. in the city hall auditorium.

The Falkville Public Library will offer weekly classes on Microsoft Office each Tuesday at 6 p.m. Jan. 14 through Feb. 18. Everyone age 14 and up is invited to attend. Students will need a flash drive (aka thumb drive, memory stick, etc.) which will remain the property of the student. College level textbooks will be used for the courses. Basic computer skills are prerequisite. No deposit will be collected, classes will be free. For more information, call 256-784-5822.

Crestline Elementary School will have bus driver appreciation day Jan. 29.

Hartselle City Schools will issue progress reports for the third nine weeks Jan. 30.

Priceville Elementary School will have a board appreciation breakfast Jan. 30 at 7:45 a.m.

Crestline Elementary School will have a book fair preview day Jan. 31.

Crestline Elementary School will have its annual book fair Feb. 3-7.

Feb. 4

Hartselle AYSO Spring Soccer league will hold sign-ups on Tues., Feb. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Feb. 8

Hartselle Junior High School will present “Annie Jr.” Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Hartselle High School auditorium.  Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. Feb. 10

The Morgan County Board of Education will have a regular meeting Mon., Feb. 10, at the office of the Board, 1325 Point Mallard Parkway SE in Decatur. A work session will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by the business meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The Hartselle Board of Education will meet Mon., Feb. 17,  at 6 p.m. at Hartselle Junior High School.

Feb. 18

All month

Morgan County Humane Society, 86 Gum Springs Cut Off Road, Hartselle, is a No Kill Animal Shelter. They meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the shelter. They are always needing volunteers. For more information, call 256-773-7222.

Country Music and Dance-Put on your boots and kick up your heels every first and third Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at Sparkman Civic Center. Admission is $5 per person. Concession will also be available.

Volunteer entertainment is needed at Columbia Cottage in Hartselle. Gospel or country singers, instrumentalists, comedians, speakers, home schoolers, children or youth groups are welcome. Contact Penny Vest at 751-4809 or 502-1491.

The Cancer Support Group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Pleasant Place building. Any person with any type of cancer is invited to attend. For more information, call 784-5694.

Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Farm Service Agency office on Alabama 36 west of downtown Hartselle. It is open to all who are interested in quilt making, The guild is focused on beginning quilt makers to help them learn how to make a new block each month and new techniques used to make them. Weight Watchers classes meet on Mondays at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center with weigh-ins beginning 30 minutes prior to each meeting. Call 1-800-651-6000 for more information.

Baton class at Sparkman Civic Center is $40 per month.  Learn the basics of twirl on Thursdays at 4 p.m.  Students must be 5 years old and have her own baton.

Head Over Heels Tumbling:  Attention gymnasts. Sign up for the beginning tumbling class to start you on your way.  Tumbling class meets every Thur. afternoon at the Sparkman Civic Center from 5 to 6 p.m. The fee is $40 per month.

Priceville Palace hosts a Big Band Swing with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band is featured. A free couples dance class is held on the first and third Saturdays from 6 to 7 p.m. You do not have to have a partner to participate. For more information, call 256-353-4362.

All mothers of active duty reserve or honorably discharged military service members are invited to attend monthly meetings of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. The Morgan County Chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church in Hartselle.

The Hartselle Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays at 8 p.m.; Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.; Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Friday meeting is a smoking meeting. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2214 hosts a dance every Tuesday from 7-10 p.m. at 112 Veterans Drive in Cullman with the “Always Country Band” featuring Jerrold Burns from Country Boy Eddie’s Band. Admission is $4. For information, call 796-9111.

 

Hartselle Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at noon at Sedona Steak House.

Hartselle’s Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon at Sedona Steak House.

The Birthday Bash at the civic center offers a birthday party theme to suit your child. The fee is $100, for 12 guests, ages 5 and older. It includes a party room, two coordinators, simple decorations and games. Party days are Monday – Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., or Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon. A yoga class will meet at the civic center every Thursday at 6 p.m.. The fee is $25 per month.

The Hartselle Hope AL-Anon Family Group, located at 527 Sparkman St. in Hartselle, meets Mondays at 8 p.m., Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays at noon and 8 p.m., Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. The Ala-Teen Family Group meets Fridays at 7 p.m. For more information, call 1-888-425-0775.

AARP Chapter 1831 meets the first Tuesday of every month except July, at the Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, located 721 Pickens St. SW in Hartselle, at 10 a.m.

Falkville VFW, 784 Culver Road, will be host bingo, every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 256-784 5747.

Dale Serrano Dance Studio will meet on Monday nights at the civic center. Instructors will strive to supply children not only the foundation of dance, but with tools for life. For more information, call 205-822-6378 .

Weight Watcher classes meet on Monday nights, weigh-in at 5, meeting at 5:30 p.m. The fee is $13 per week. For more information, call Weight Watcher at 1-800-651-6000.

Aerobics classes are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Sparkman Civic Center, at 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. This class is taught by Mellonie Chappell and is for all ages. It’s the perfect opportunity to lose a few pounds and gain new friends at the same time. The fee is $25 per month or $10 per visit.

Senior Nutrition Center, also known as the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. We operate from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday and have been known to jump on an evening supper bus now and then. The Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10.
