Summerford to address Genealogical Society
The Morgan County Genealogical Society’s (MCGS) monthly meeting will be Sun., Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. on the third floor of the Morgan County Archives in Decatur.
A short business meeting precedes the regular program, and light refreshments follow. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Rhona Summerford will be the guest speaker, presenting her new book “The Falkville Collection.” She characterizes the book as “an attempt to give Falkville a bit of written history of which residents can be proud.”
It is a collection of her writing, interviews and items contributed by others celebrating the small north Alabama town. It also includes items from “Falkville Founders Day,” which she co-wrote with Mrs. Ruby Brown Collum.
Summerford is a retired social studies teacher who has lived in Falkville since 1958. Copies of the new publication will be available for purchase at the meeting.
The Morgan County Archives is located at 624 Bank Street NE, Decatur, AL 35601. For more information about MCGS and upcoming programs, contact the Society’s Program Director, Terri Hildreth, at tleeh1@aol. com or 256-777-8153.
