Big innings doom Priceville

Priceville allowed Scottsboro to have two big innings during a 9-5 in the season opener Feb. 18.

Adam Baggette hit an RBI single to start the rally. Bob McGee followed it up with a two-run triple and scored on John Gann’s single.

Priceville struck first thanks to five consecutive walks. Aaron Cartee and Cody Barber walked with the bases loaded to score Kaleb Barker and Weston Hopkins. Hunter Cowan reached on an error to score Landon Eddy, giving the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.

A key error and five walks allowed Scottsboro to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Priceville answered with small ball in the second inning. Barker got a leadoff single and stole second and third bases. He then scored on Cartee’s sacrifice ground ball.

Barber then hit an RBI single to score Eddy.

That was all the Bulldogs could muster the rest of the way. Barker finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Barber and Cartee both had two RBIs.

Kyle Willis took the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Jacob Crow had a solid outing in relief of starter Phillip Goodwin. Crow went four and one-third innings, allowing just one hit and one walk with five strikeouts.
