Larry Ballentine

A memorial service for Larry Ballentine, 73, of Hartselle will be Sat., March 1, at 11 a.m. at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor John H. Ninke and Bernard H. Ansorge officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be Sat., March 1, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Mr. Ballentine died Wed., Feb. 19, 2014, at his residence. He was born June 22, 1940, in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, to Merle Mitchell Ballentine and Mamie Brunko Ballentine. He was a dedicated, charter member of Christ our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and loved his Lord Jesus Christ dearly. Mr. Ballentine was an Engineer at Boeing Military Airplane Company for nearly 30 years. He was an avid tennis player at Huntsville and Decatur tennis centers and a master gardener. He often tutored children in multiple courses as a service to his church community. He was diagnosed with the ALS (Lou Gehrig’s) disease in December 2011, and continued to fight this disease throughout the remainder of his life. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ruth Ballentine of Hartselle; a son, Todd Ballentine (Laura Ann) of Meridianville; a daughter, Cynthia Jo Peebles (Michael Raymond) of Huntsville; three sisters, Dene Myers of Wichita, Kan., Donna Doles of Rio Rancho, NM. and Janice Doxtator of Stevens Point, Wis.; three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The ALS Association or to Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
