The William Bradford Huie Library in Hartselle will be sponsoring two showings of “Freedom Riders Telling 436 stories: Could You Get On The Bus?” at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center Feb. 27 and March 6, at 6 p.m. each night. The library was one of 500 U.S. communities to receive a set of the film series “Created Equal: America’s Civic Rights Struggle” thanks to a grant from The National Endowment for the Humanities in partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History as part of the “Bridging Cultures” initiative. It is free and open to the public.

The Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce will host the State of Morgan County Address featuring Commission Chairman Ray Long Thur., Feb. 27, at 7:30 a.m. at Turner-Surles Community Center in Decatur. College Street Players will present Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.” Feb. 27 through March 1 at the Hartselle High School Auditorium. Performances are at 7 p.m. each night with a matinee performance March 1 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. They can be purchased at Zoey’s Downtown, the Hartselle Fine Arts Center or the Hartselle  Chamber of Commerce.

Run For Life, a 5K and 1 mile run, will be March 15, at the Tabernacle. Pick up packets at West Hartselle Baptist Church, March 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at the Chapel at the Tabernacle March 15, at check in starting at 7 a.m. There will be rewards for the winners and T-shirts for those who pre-register by the deadline, March 9. April 4-5

Sparkman Civic Center will host a semi-annual rummage sale will be April 4-5 beginning at 7 a.m. both days. Sellers may begin registering March 3 at 7:30 a.m. Booth rental is $20 for both days. Registration deadline is March 28.

April 12

The annual Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt and Family Fun Day will be to April 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at Sparkman Park. Daystar Church in Hartselle will also be providing activities during the event. The egg hunt will begin promptly at 10 a.m.

Hartselle Parks and Recreation’s annual Dog Bone Hunt will be April 12 at 11 a.m. at Sparkman Park Pavilion 4. Dogs will be divided into three separate weight classes for the hunt. Prizes will be awarded for Largest Dog, Smallest Dog, Most Bones Found and Best Dressed. All dogs must be up to date on their shots and on a leash. Please only bring one dog per person. You will also need a bag to collect bones.

Swimming Lesson Registration Registration will begin May 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hartselle Aquatic Center. Swimming lessons are for ages 6 months through adult. Ages 5 and under is $45 and Ages 6 and older is $50. Session 1 is June 2-13. Session 2 is June 16-27. Session 3 is July 7-18 and Session 4 is July 21- Aug. 1. May 16

Mister Henry’s Neighborhood Restaurant Sparkman Park Survivor will be May 16 in Pavilion 4 at Sparkman Park. Elimination games will be played beginning at 7 p.m. and will be played throughout the night until 8 a.m. the next morning when the ultimate survivor claims victory. Participants must be at least 18 years of age. The winner will receive family of 4 season pass to the Hartselle Aquatic Center. ($250 value)  There is no fee but please register at the civic center no later than May 12.

Country Music and Dance-Put on your boots and kick up your heels every first and third Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at Sparkman Civic Center. Admission is $5 per person. Concession will also be available.

Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Farm Service Agency office on Alabama 36 west of downtown Hartselle. It is open to all who are interested in quilt making, The guild is focused on beginning quilt makers to help them learn how to make a new block each month and new techniques used to make them. Head Over Heels Tumbling:  Attention gymnasts. Sign up for the beginning tumbling class to start you on your way.  Tumbling class meets every Thur. afternoon at the Sparkman Civic Center from 5 to 6 p.m. The fee is $40 per month.

Priceville Palace hosts a Big Band Swing with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band is featured. Senior Nutrition Center, also known as the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. We operate from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday and have been known to jump on an evening supper bus now and then. The Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities and support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham.  Civitan is the only civic club with a research center.
