Hartselle softball goes 1-3 in Hazel Green Classic

Hartselle went 1-3 during the Hazel Green Trojan Classic in Huntsville Friday and Saturday.

The win was a dramatic 7-6 decision over Lawrence County.

Hannah Jenkins led the way with two hits and four RBIs, including a two-run home run that capped a five-run first inning. Jada Hayes also had a three-run home run in the stanza.

Ali Forth had the only other hit for Hartselle.

Lawrence County tied the game in the top of the third inning.

Jenkins hit a single in the bottom of the inning to score Madeline Sittason and Hope Cain, giving the Tigers the runs they needed.

Emily Lipinski earned the win, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in three innings of work with four strikeouts. Cain got the save in one inning of work.

Athens 3, HHS 1

Taylor Wascavage and Jenkins had two hits each, but it wasn’t enough to beat Athens.

Jenkins had a solo home run. Ashley Boggs and Sarah Ellen Battles also had hits.

Hayes took the loss, allowing three unearned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks. The Lady Tigers had four errors.

Buckhorn 5, HHS 3

Buckhorn scored two late-inning runs to break the 3-3 tie and earn the win.

Boggs went 2-for-3 with a double. Sittason and Wascavage both had doubles while Battles, Hayes, Cain and Sydnee Wiley had singles. Wiley, Cain and Sittason also had RBIs.

Hayes allowed three earned runs on seven hits in three innings of work. Cain struck out four allowing two unearned runs on one hit and two walks.

Sparkman 4, HHS 1

Wascavage was 2-for-2 with a run scored in the loss to Sparkman.

Hayes had a hit and the lone RBI for Hartselle. She also took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Cain had a hit and two walks in one inning of work.
