Two men face burglary charges

Decatur Police have arrested two men and charged them with burglary in the 1st degree in connection with a forced entry at a Decatur residence on Jan. 20.

Matthew Lyle Bond, 24, of 128 Morgan Lane, Falkville, turned himself in to Decatur Police on Feb. 25 following a lengthy search. He was booked into Decatur City Jail and later transferred to Morgan County Jail. He is also being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Steven Joshua Garrison, 29, of 174 Herring Road in Decatur was taken into custody at Decatur Morgan Hospital Feb. 18 and booked into Decatur City Jail. He was later transferred to Morgan County Jail where he is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

According to a Decatur police report, two armed men forced their way into the residence of Henry Hockett on Starkey Road in Decatur. Hockett was assaulted and required medical attention. He was treated and released at Decatur Morgan Hospital.

One of the offenders fired a single shot into a television monitor and several guns and money were taken.

Due to the threats he received, Hockett waited two days before reporting the crime to police. The case was forwarded to the violent crimes division. Detectiive Michael Burleson was assigned to the case and began an investigation.

During the course of the investigation, Burleson was able to identify Bond and Garrison as the offenders and obtained warrants for their arrest.
