Benefit planned for fallen firefighter

American Legion Riders Post 15 and VFW Post 4190 of Decatur will co-sponsor a charity ride and benefit for the family of firefighter Jantzen Frazier who was killed in a wreck while responding to a house fire in October 2013.

The ride will be on April 26 and will cover approximately 120 miles. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at American Legion Post 15, located at  2607 U.S. Hwy 31 in Decatur. The entry fee is $20 per bike, $5 extra for a passenger.  The ride will begin at approximately 9 a.m. Maps will be provided and discounts will be offered at several stops.

The return destination is VFW Post 4190, where lunch consisting of hot dogs and burgers will be provides at noon. There will also be a 50/50 drawing, silent auction and door prizes.

Fraiser served in the U.S. Army and served two tours of duty in Iraq. He received two Purple Hearts for wounds he received in combat.

After leaving the Army, Frazier continued to serve his neighbors as a volunteer firefighter in the Oden Ridge VFD district. The 28-year-old veteran was en route to a house fire on Wilson Mountain Road when the fire engine he was operating left the road, struck a utility pole and overturned.

He was killed instantly leaving a wife and four children.
