McKendree UMC hosts Ash Wednesday service

On Wednesday, March 5, Danville United Methodist and McKendree United Methodist enjoyed a potluck meal in the McKendree fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m. Afterward, they had an Ash Wednesday service in the sanctuary. Brother Mike Vest gave each person a lump of clay at the beginning. Each person was asked to make something as a symbol of their repentance and leave the token on the altar table before they received the ashes. The McKendree praise band includes Tammy Vest, Brannigan Crawley, Linda Huskey, Skye Hibbs, Jennifer Hogan (drums), Paul Hogan and Cody Munger (guitar). Brother Mike led the congregation in a series of meditations and scriptures on Ash Wednesday. They sang “Open My Eyes” and “Breathe On Me Breath of God.” The service ended with a song and Brother Mike leading the benedictory prayers.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt prayers this week for the people on the church prayer list: Charles Parker, Gary Anders, Tom Wimberley, Donna Culver, Laura Campbell, Bobby White, Thelma Thompson, Troy Johnson, Sydney Woznicki, Jenna Locklear, Dana Segars, Jo Gullion, Jake White, Mary Beth Gullion, Annette Hicks, Kenneth Standridge, Janet Honer, Shirley Beard, Nancy Justice, Faye, Mr. Bobby, Brenda and Mark.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Marsha Roberts on March 18. Happy birthday wishes go out to Delaney Emmons and Gertrude Crawford, both on March 23.

On Tues., March 4, El-Marie’s Marketplace and Lillie’s had Fat Tuesday decorations, food and music for patrons. Specials included jambalaya, white chili, red beans and rice, Cajun cabbage, bread pudding with rum-raisin sauce and other items.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy go out this week to Preston Bryant, formerly of the Corinth community, and his family on the death of Preston and Gloria’s daughter, Robin, on Sun., March 2, in California. Robin had lived in the coastal area near Los Angeles, Calif., for a number of years. The memorial service was Sat., March 15, at the Brookside Memorial Gardens in Millbrook at 10 a.m.

McKendree United Methodist Church will host Simulcast speaker Priscilla Shirer, who is a well-known author and speaker. Priscilla’s latest book is “God Is Able.” The Simulcast will be held at the Bridge Center at McKendree Church on Sat., April 5, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The price for the program will be $25.00 and will include lunch. The deadline for registration will be March 22, and checks need to be made to McKendree UMC and mailed to Lynn Hogan at 1132 Nanceford Road, Hartselle. Corinth West Methodist Church is sponsoring a Swamp John’s fundraiser on Fri., March 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Proceeds will go to the church’s general fund. On Wed., March 26, the church will begin their spring revival at 7 p.m. They will continue the 7 p.m. services Thursday and Friday nights. Rev. Greg Standridge will be the evangelist. He is the pastor at Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church.

The Falkville-Massey area Singspiration will be the fifth Sunday night, March 30, at 6 p.m. Falkville UMC will be the host church. Area church choirs will sing and some will do special music. There will also be congregational singing. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall.

Special happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Joe and Stoshia Logan as they celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary March 19, Joseph and Kayla Thomas as they celebrate their 4th wedding anniversary on March 20 and Mark and Julie Campbell as they celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary on March 23.

New Life-God’s Church will have a fundraiser classic car and antique tractor show on Sat., April 5, at 9 a.m. at Tin Top Variety on Highway 31, south near Thompson Road in Hartselle. There will be food concessions and 1960’s music. Proceeds from the event will go to New Life-God’s Church benevolence fund. The church pastors are Phillip Hardin and Tony Johnson. It is located on West Lacon Road in the former Fairview Church of God building. Their Sunday worship service is at 11 a.m. and visitors are welcome to attend.
