Winning big

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers shut the door on Athens after the first inning and went on to claim championship honors in their own tournament at the Grady and Margie Long Softball Complex Saturday afternoon.

Down 2-0 after the top half of the first inning, Hartselle bounced back with a run in its half of the inning, added the tying run in the second and blew the game open with a four-run rally in the fourth. The final score was 6-2.

Taylor Wascavage delivered two big blows in the contest. She blasted a solo home run in the first, added a two-run double in the fourth and scored a run.

Madeline Sittason had a pair of singles and scored two runs, Sara Ellen Battles had an RBI single, Ashley Boggs had an RBI single and scored a run, Hannah Jenkins and Emily Lipinski each had an RBI single and Jada Hayes and Hope Cain each singled.

Hayes was credited with the win. She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out two and walking one.

Hartselle 4, Hoover 0

Jada Hayes powered Hartselle at the plate and in the circle to a 4-0 victory over Hoover in the semifinals of the Hartselle Varsity Tournament.

Hayes racked up two RBIs on one hit. She homered in the fourth inning.

Hoover had no answer for Hayes, who kept runners off the base paths in her appearance. Hoover managed just two hits and two walks during Hayes’ two innings of work.

Hope Cain put away the final six outs to record the save.

Hartselle never trailed after scoring three runs in the fourth on a two-run home run by Hayes and an RBI single by Sydnee Wiley.

Wascavage had the only other hit, a double.

Hartselle 5, West Morgan 0

The Lady Tigers collected 10 hits and went on to shut out West Morgan.

Battles and Wascavage each had two singles and scored a run, Boggs had two singles and an RBI, Hope Cain singled in two runs and Sittason, Jenkins and Lipinski each singled and scored a run.

Cain was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and striking out 12 batters.

Hartselle 9, Ardmore 0

Hartselle blanked Ardmore in a pool play game Friday.

Cain led the way with a double, two singles, an RBI and a run scored. Battles had a double and single, an RBI and two runs scored, Wascavage had a double and scored two runs and Boggs singled and score two runs.

Hayes got the win, allowing only one hit while striking out 10 batters and allowing two walks.

HHS 5, Austin 2

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers combined timely hitting with strong pitching to defeat Austin’s Lady Black Bears, 5-2, in a home game March 10.

Taylor Wascavage led the win with a double, single, and one run scored. Madeline Sittason had a par of singles and two RBIs, Ali Forth singed and knocked in a run, Ashley Boggs had a single and Hannah Jenkins singled and scored a run.

Emily Lipinski was the winning pitcher. She allowed two runs on four hits while striking out three and walking five. Hope Cain pitched two innings in relief, allowing one hit while striking out four and walking one.
