Lady Tigers go 5-2 in Gulf Coast Classic

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers recorded a 5-2 record at the Gulf Coach Classic March 24-26, outscoring their opponents 29 to seven runs. Four of their wins were shutouts.

Wins were recorded against Jeff Davis, 2-0; Brubaker Tech, 8-0; Westmoreland, Tenn., 13-0; Hoover 8-2; and Lee Montgomery, 13-0, Losses were to Northridge, 2-0; and Oxford, 3-0.

Following are results of games played March 25-26:

Hartselle 8, Brewbaker Tech 0

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers combined strong hitting with solid pitching to shut out Brewbaker Tech, 8-0, in the third round of pool play at the Gulf Coast Classic on March 24.

Taylor Wascavage paved the way for Hartselle with a three-RBI homer run. Sydney Crow added two singles and two RBIs, Hannah Jenkins had a double, single and two RBIs, Riley Corum tripled and scored a run, Ashley Boggs had an RBI single and Jada Hayes and Hope Cain each singled.

Cain was the winning pitcher. She allowed no runs on two hits and struck out seven batters in five innings.

Hartselle 8, Westmoreland, Tenn. 0

Hartselle grabbed an early lead and went on to shut out Westmoreland, Tenn., 8-0, at the Gulf Coast Classic on March 25.

Hope Cain paced the Lady Tigers at the plate with two singles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Taylor Wascavage had a single, an RBI and scored three runs, Jada Hayes had a double and two RBIs Ashley Boggs had an RBI single and scored twice, Emily Lipinski had a single and scored twice and Sara Ellen Battles added a single.

Hayes was the winning pitcher. She allowed only one hit while striking out five batters.

Hartselle 8, Hoover 2

The Lady Tigers relied on timely hitting and solid pitching to defeat Hoover, 8-2, at the Gulf Coast Classic on March 25.

Seven Lady Tigers recorded hits. Sara Ellen Battles has two singles and scored twice, Hannah Jenkins had a single, four RBIs and scored a run, Sydnee Wiley added a single and two RBIs, Ali Forth had an RBI single, Taylor Wascavage had a single and scored twice and Jada Hayes and Hope Cain each singled and scored a run.

Cain was the winning pitcher. She allowed two runs on two hits while striking out two batters.

Hartselle 13, Lee Montgomery 0

Emily Lipinski and Hope Cain combined to pitch a no-hitter against Lee Montgomery at the Gulf Coast Classic on March 26. The score was 13-0.

Lipinski started the game, pitched one inning and was credited with the win. She allowed no hits while striking out three batters. Cain pitched two innings in relief, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out three batters and walking one.

The Lady Tigers had 12 hits. Makayla Hayes had a pair of singles and scored a run, Bailey Powell had a double and scored three runs, Hope Cain had a RBI double, Anna Stinson had a two-RBI single, Hannah Jenkins and Lipinski each had a two-RBI single and scored a run, Sydnee Wiley singled and scored a run and Sydney Crow, Ashley Boggs and Sarah Ellen Battles each singled and scored a run.

Oxford 3, Hartselle 0

The Lady Tigers lost to Oxford 3-1, on March 26 ending their run at the Gulf Coast Classic.

Hartselle managed only two hits in the game, a single each by Hope Cain and Sydnee Wiley.

Jada Hayes was the losing pitcher. She allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four batters and walking one in two innings. Cain pitched four innings in relief, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out six batters.
