Tigers go 3-3 in Hoover

No. 5 Hartselle matched Hoover’s 10 hits Thursday in the Hoover Tournament, but the Tigers (17-14) couldn’t keep up in the run column, as the Bucs won 13-5.

Tanner Oakes, Daniel Conley and Tate Mathis kept the Tigers in the game with two hits apiece. The hits included a triple for Oakes, doubles for Mathis and Conley, three RBIs for Mathis, two runs for Oakes and one run for Conley.

However, it wasn’t enough to overcome three early errors that led to the Bucs taking a 9-1 lead by the end of the second inning.

Hayden Bradford, Tyler Cook, Lon Starr and Curtis Russell had the other hits for Hartselle.

Nic James was tagged with the loss, only lasting one-third of an inning. Jake Shelton had two walks and one strikeout in a full inning.

Cooper Wright allowed five runs, four of which were unearned, in one and two-thirds inning of work with a strikeout.

Brady Netherton pitched the final three innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

Spain Park 10, HHS 7

The Jaguars scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the win.

Cook, Casen Wallace and Conley all had two hits apiece. Conley had a double and two RBIs.

Jorden Robinson drove in two runs with a double while Hayden Bradford had a hit with two RBIs. Zeth Malcolm had a hit and a run scored.

Dakota Fowler took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks. Levi Tapscott also allowed two runs without recording an out.

Tate Mathis allowed three runs on four walks and two hits in the first four innings.

Hartselle scored two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead.

Spain Park tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Hartselle took a 7-5 lead in the top of the sixth before surrendering the lead for good in the bottom of the stanza.

Hartselle 1, Sipsey Valley 0

Brady Wallace scattered seven hits and one walk to earn a nine-inning shutout.

He struck out five batters along the way.

Russell drove in Robinson with a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning for the only run of the game.

Hayden Bradford finished 2-for-3 while Cook was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Tigers. Oakes, Mathis and Robinson had hits for the Tigers.

The best opportunity for Sipsey Valley came in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Tigers caught the runner trying to steal home on a double steal.

Hartselle 4, Sipsey Valley 3

The Tigers held off Sipsey Valley’s rally in the seventh inning to get the win.

Mason Towers went the distance, allowing three unearned runs on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Collins Hanners led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 effort with a run scored. Russell drove in two runs and had a double.

Oakes, Bradford, Cook and Robinson added hits.

Hartselle 7, Enterprise 2

Malcolm and Conley led the Tigers to the win with two hits each at the plate.

One of Malcolm’s hits was a double.

Mathis scored twice despite not getting a hit while Oakes, Cook and Robinson collected hits.

Jake Nelson got the win, allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

Spain Park 6, Hartselle 3

The Jaguars scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, which provided enough insurance for Spain Park to defeat Hartselle.

Fowler took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks in six innings of work. He had five strikeouts.

Levi Tapscott pitched the final inning and allowed three earned runs on one hit and four walks.

Robinson led the Tigers with a 2-for-2 outing including a double and a run scored. Oakes, Bradford, Brett Blackwood, Cook and Conley with singles.
