Falkville knocks off top 10 team in tournament

MAPLESVILLE – Ryan Bradford hit two doubles and drove in four runs to help the NO. 4 Falkville Blue Devils defeat the No. 6 Maplesville Red Devils 13-3 in the Fayetteville Tournament Thursday afternoon.

The Blue Devils outhit the Red Devils 11-7 while Ryan Bradford went the distance on the mound. He allowed three runs on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Taylor Steele, Alston Howard, Adam Keenum and Dallas Mayer had two hits apiece while Colin Eason had one hit. Steele, Evans and Keenum each had two RBIs while Howard and Eason added one RBI each.

Geneva County 10, Falkville 2

The Blue Devils had just four hits and committed six errors in a loss to Geneva County Thursday night in the Fayetteville Tournament.

The Blue Devils struck first with two runs in the second inning. Collin Eason drove in Tanner Evans with a two-out single. He then came home on a pitcher throwing error.

Alston Howard, Taylor Steele and Evans had the other hits.

Geneva County took the lead with three runs in the fourth inning and added three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth

Evans took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings. Dallas Mayer allowed three runs on two hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Howard allowed three runs on two hits and one walk while Blake Bradford allowed one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
