Hartselle to face Cullman for area championship this week

The Hartselle Tigers baseball team will face Cullman in a series this week to determine the area championship, after the Tigers swept East Limestone to clinch a playoff berth.

Hartselle needed 10 innings to defeat East Limestone 8-6 in area play Thursday.

The Tigers had only five hits the entire game, but took advantage of 13 walks. Brett Blackwood had three of them while two hits were issued to each Tyler Cook, Tate Mathis and Curtis Russell.

Jorden Robinson was the lone Tiger to get two hits in the game.

Dakota Fowler racked up nine strikeouts in the 10-inning game. He allowed six runs on 13 hits.

 

Hartselle 6, East Limestone 1

 

Mason Towers limited East to just four hits while collecting four strikeouts.

Tanner Oakes and Daniel Conley had two hits apiece while Hayden Bradford, Zeth Malcolm, Collins Hanners, Curtis Russell and Brady Netherton had hits.

Conley and Hanners had home runs and Conley added a double. Each had two RBIs.

 

Hartselle 7, East Limestone 6

 

Hartselle’s varsity Tigers combined timely hitting with solid pitching to defeat area foe East Limestone at home on April 1.

The Tigers rallied for five runs in the first inning but had to have an RBI hit from Tyler Cook to get the win.

Other Tiger hitters were Daniel Conley with a home run and a single, Tate Mathis with a home run and Hayden Bradford with a single.

Jake Nelson was the winning pitcher. He went the distance, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out 10 batters and walking three.

 

Hartselle 16, East Limestone 6

 

In the second game of a doubleheader on April 1, Hartselle’s Tigers defeated East Limestone, 16-6, in an area game on the road.

Eight Tigers accounted for 14 hits. Hayden Bradford collected three singles and had four RBIs.  Daniel Conley had a double, single an RBI and scored a run, Seth Malcolm doubled, singled and had an RBI, Jordan Robinson had a pair of singles and an RBI, Tanner Oakes added a pair of singles, an RBI and scored three runs, Collins Hanners had a single, an RBI and scored twice, Curtis Russell had an RBI single and scored four runs and Casen Wallace singled and scored three runs.

Netherton was the winning pitcher. He allowed two runs on three hits while striking out four and walking one in five innings.

 

 

Hartselle 4, Oakland 1

Hartselle scored three runs in the sixth inning to defeat Oakland Saturday.

Daniel Conley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Tanner Oakes, Hayden Bradford and Jorden Robinson had one hit each.

Brady Wallace allowed one run on seven hits with two strikeouts.
