Hartselle ends regular season on winning note

Hartselle swept games at home Saturday to end the season with a 27-19 record.

The Tigers clinched a playoff berth and will travel to the first round of the playoffs Friday at Muscle Shoals.

The final game saw Hartselle blowing out Germantown (Tenn.) 13-2 Saturday night.

Tanner Oakes, Brett Blackwood, Collins Hanners and Jorden Robinson each had two hits on the night.

Hayden Bradford hit a triple while Robinson, Tate Mathis and Oakes each had doubles.

Jake Nelson earned the win with two strikeouts in three innings. Cooper Wright pitched the other two innings with three strikeouts.

In the early game, Robinson reached on an error to score Mathis in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Hartselle a 6-5 win over Houston (Tenn.)

Brett Blackwood and Zeth Malcolm kept the Tigers in the game. Blackwood scored three times thanks to a solo home run and a double.

Malcolm was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles.

Bradford and Mathis added doubles while Tyler Cooke and Collins Hanners added singles.

Jake Nelson pitched the top of the eighth inning and earned the win with a strikeout. Levi Tapscott went seven innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Hartselle 5, Bartlett (Tenn.) 4

Tate Mathis hit a double in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Tyler Cook and give Hartselle the win, breaking a four-game losing streak.

Brett Blackwood had a home run and a double with three RBIs to pace Hartselle.

Brady Netherton and Tate Mathis finished with two hits each while Tanner Oakes, Hayden Bradford, Tyler Cook and Jorden Robinson collected hits.

Netherton earned the nine-inning win, allowing four runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Arlington (Ky.) 8, HHS 3

Brady Netherton had a two-run home run, but it wasn’t enough.

Hayden Bradford was 2-for-4 with one run. Tyler Cook hit a double while Zeth Malcolm and Collins Hanners added singles.

Mason Towers took the loss but had four strikeouts. Nic James had one strikeout in two scoreless innings.

Cullman 13, Hartselle 3

The Tigers allowed six home runs in a loss to the Bearcats, giving Cullman the area championship.

Zeth Malcolm finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs to pace Hartselle. Brett Blackwood had a 2-for-3 effort.

Daniel Conley had one hit but scored twice. Tanner Oakes and Tyler Cook had the other hits.

Dakota Fowler took the loss.

Cullman 9, Hartselle 1

In the nightcap Thursday, Daniel Conley and Jorden Robinson had the only hits for Hartselle.

Robinson scored on Tanner Oakes’ sacrifice fly.

Brady Wallace took the loss, allowing eight runs on five hits and five walks with three strikeouts. Nic James allowed another run on two hits and one walk with a strikeout in three innings.
