JV ROUNDUP: Hartselle JV softball wins county

Hartselle’s JV team defeated Austin 7-0 to win the Morgan County JV Softball Championship Saturday at Wilson Morgan Park.

Makayla Hayes was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Sara Faulk, Mary Jane Wooley, Brianna Wallace, Kaitlyn Spangler and Kennadi Hogan all had hits.

Gracie Poe struck out five to get the win.

Earlier in the day, The Lady Tigers defeated Brewer.

Players collecting two hits apiece included Sara Faulk, Gracie Poe and Rose Braun.

Emily Crow, Jordan Finn, Lindsey Robinson, Makayla Hayes, Aliya Lesley, Kaitlyn Spangler, Taylor Spangler and Ashley Segars all had hits.

Poe got the win allowing none in three and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts and four walks. Abbey Vinzant allowed two unearned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Brewer had just seven hits on the day.

Hartselle 8, Danville 0

Gracie Poe threw a no-hitter against the Lady Hawks. She had three walks and 11 strikeouts.

Kaitlyn Spangler and Makayla Hayes paced the Lady Tigers with 3-for-3 efforts. Spangler had three RBIs while Hayes had two.

Hartselle 16, Priceville 0

Gracie Poe hit three home runs with a total of eight RBIs to lead the Hartselle JV Lady Tigers in a 16-0 win over Priceville Thursday.

That included a grand slam and a two-run homer in the fourth inning. She also had a two-run home run in the second inning.

She also pitched a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts.

Anna Stinson, Sara Faulk, Bailey Powell, Makayla Hayes, Kaitlyn Spangler and Kennadi Hogan each had two hits while Rose Braun and Brianna Wallace had singles.

Austin 12, Hartselle 5

After taking a 5-4 lead in the third inning, Austin scored five in the fourth inning and three in the fifth inning to earn the win.

Bailey Powell led Hartselle in defeat by going 3-for-3. Anna Stinson and Gracie Poe each finished 2-for-3. Poe had three RBIs including a solo home run.

Sara Faulk, Brianna Wallace, Aliya Leslie and Kennadi Hogan had hits for the Lady Tigers.

Poe took the loss, allowing 12 unearned runs on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Freshman Baseball

HHS 11, Huntsville 3

Trevor Oakes, Skylar Hollad, James Edde and AJ Robinson each had two hits with two RBIs to lead the Tigers.

Edde and Robinson had triples while Holland had two doubles and Connor Landers and Oakes added doubles.

Holland got the win with eight strikeouts.

HHS 11, Bob Jones 2

Weston Krohe struck out six to earn the win Saturday.

Trevor Oakes went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. James Edde was 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Connor Landers was 2-for-2 with a double and one run scored. Isaac Taylor was 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs.

JV Baseball

Hartselle 5, Bob Jones 1

Caleb Myers was 3-for-3 with one run scored to pace the Tigers.

Lane Anders, Will Foote, Jaxon Peebles and Jack Hundley added hits.

Austin Parker struck out six to get the win. Will Foote closed it out with a scoreless seventh inning.

Grissom 8, Hartselle 5

Will Foote was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs in a loss against Grissom.

Foote and Caleb Myers each had home runs. Lane Anders was also 2-for-4 and Collins Hanners was 2-for-3.

Austin Parker and Seth Ballew added hits.

Blake Lowe took the loss despite having eight strikeouts.
