A memorial service for Chester Lavon Helms, 49, of Falkville will be Thur., May 1, at 2 p.m. at New Salem Baptist Church in Florette with Bro. Tim Helms officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in New Salem Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be Thur., May 1, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Helms died Sun., April 27, 2014, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born Nov. 9, 1964, in Morgan County to Chester Franklin Helms and Doris Marie Briscoe Helms. He was an avid Alabama fan. He was formerly a truck driver for Anders Logging Company. Mr. Helms was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Anthony “Tony” Ray Helms.

He is survived by his wife, Dona Helms; two sons, Michael William Hickey and William Eston Scott; five daughters, Heather Nicole Helms, Laura Ann Helms, Tonya Lashae Helms, Andrea Michelle Nelson and Sarah Marie Helms; a brother, Jason Helms, (Miranda); two sisters, Robin Marie Whittle (Jeff) and Crystal Dawn Summers (Josh); and 10 grandchildren.
