Funeral for Truman Screws, 91, of Hartselle will be Thur., May 1, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Keenum and Rev. Wally Blackman officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery in Cullman County. Visitation will be Thur., May 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Screws died Sun., April 27, 2014, at his residence. He was born July 1, 1922, in Cullman County to Thomas S. Screws and Mattie Ann (Dukes) Screws. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of East Highland Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a lifetime educator; being a teacher, a coach and a principal. He served as Morgan County Superintendent of Education from 1979 until his retirement in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Stricklin) Screws of Hartselle; a son, Greg Screws of Huntsville; a daughter, Vicki Jeffreys (Roger) of Hartselle; two grandchildren, Courtney White Greene, (Jacob) and Emily Screws Roberts (Tyler); two stepgrandchildren, Lendy Jeffreys Hancock (Mike) and Leslie Jeffreys Dawson (Lonnie); two great-grandchildren, Rhett Roberts and Will Greene; five stepgreat-grandchildren, Chase Hancock (Brandi), Abbie Hancock, Matt Hancock, Alex Dawson and Makenzie Dawson.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Union Hill High School Class of 1962.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley or to Meals on Wheels.
