Shady Grove Baptist to host vacation Bible school

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church will be holding their vacation Bible school June 1-5 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each nights.

Classes will be available for ages preschool through the sixth grade. The program will be “Agency D3-Discover, Decide and Defend.” Everyone is welcome to attend the vacation Bible school.

Charlene Orr of Massey community attended a luncheon at the Freight House Fri., April 25, for her Morgan County High School classmate of 1962, Lucile Slaten Crume, who was visiting relatives in Hartselle. Also enjoying lunch and the fellowship were, Cherie King, Carolyn Halford, Mearleen Maples and granddaughter Heather, Wyllene Carter, Reba Swinson, Shirley Badens, Betty Watson and their American History and Spanish teacher, Kay Farrer. Shirley and Lucile live in Charleston, South Carolina. Shirley attended her Morgan County High School class of 1964 50th reunion Sat., April 26, at Hartselle Fine Arts Center at noon.

Belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Gary Hill and Larry Hill, both on May 1, Brandon Turrentine on May 2, Scott LaRoche, Luke Campbell, Wes Campbell, Courtney Self and Bobby White, all on May 3, Penny Vest on May 4, Kay Vest Hanline on May 6, Wylie Reaves on May 8, Anna Bibb and Dalton Faulkner, both on May 9, Nicholas Pendleton on May 10, Charlotte Woznicki and Maddie Heard, both on May 11, and Bob Sims and Dylan Newell, both on May 13.

Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Perry Jones and Shawn Smith on May 14, Emily Long, David M. Sapp and John L. Garrison, all on May 15, Kristin Dobbins, Kristen Sparkman and Sherri Clark, all on May 16, and Danny Wallace on May 18.

Corinth West Baptist Women’s group met Sun., May 4, at 10 a.m. Plans were made for the women members for Mother’s Day, May 11, and for senior citizens lunch and bingo.

On Tues., May 20, the community and area are invited to a fish fry at the church fellowship hall at 11 a.m. Afterward, they will play three bingo games.

Belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to David and Ruth Sparkman for their 53rd wedding anniversary on May 6, James and Sandra Roden for their 47th wedding anniversary on May 6 and Bobby and Nell Dobbins for their 33rd wedding anniversary on May 11.

Friendship Baptist Church at Upshaw had a Decoration Day memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 4. Rev. Glenn Woods was one of the ministers. After the service, the Westmoreland family of Upshaw and other areas went to Old Houston to Chef Troy’s Talk of the Town restaurant for a family reunion meal.

Happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Barry and Meagan Weldon for their third wedding anniversary on May 14 and Jerry and Janet Reynolds for their 33rd wedding anniversary on May 16.

James and Jan Stephens of Neel attended his granddaughter Alaina Rene Krell’s graduation at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa Sat., May 3, at 9 a.m. Alaina received a B.S. degree in business management and has a new job in Tuscaloosa.

Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church had its monthly fellowship meal Wed., May 7, at 6 p.m. Everyone enjoyed the potluck supper in the fellowship hall. Afterward, they had Bible study in the sanctuary.

Round Top Community Church had a Decoration Day memorial service Sun., May 4, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Pearl Jenkins is the pastor. Afterward, they had lunch in the Family Life Center. On Sunday, May 11, the men’s group had their monthly breakfast in the Center and invited the w,momen of the church for a Mother’s Day treat.

The Dutton Family, originally of Penn’s community, enjoyed lunch together Sun., May 4, after the memorial service at Friendship Baptist Church. Descendants of Brother Dan Dutton and Laura Minor Dutton annually meet at the Decoration Day events at Friendship, near Danville. Included were Ottis Dutton, Lorene Bryant’s family, Irene Pope and family and the late Ilva Alldredge’s family. Louie and Mary Dutton are both patients at Summerford Nursing Home.

I am very proud of the Danville Lady Hawks who have worked so very hard and are currently participating in regionala tournament action. Best of luck and God bless our Danville Lady Hawks and their coaches.

On Wed., May 6, Lebanon Baptist Church on Highway 55 west had a Swamp John’s fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Members would like to thank community and area folks who supported the supper and for donations given.

Linda Huskey is McKendree United Methodist Church’s new choir director. She was in charge on Sunday, May 11, at the Mother’s Day program as well.

In addition, McKendree was host church for the Herring Cemetery Decoration-Memorial as well as the McKendree Cemetery memorial on May 11.

Lynn Hogan of the McKendree Women’s group is in charge of the computer class for women at the Bridge Center on New Cut Road. The class is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Saturday. To register, call Lynn at 256-462-3752.
