Cotton Pickin’ BBQ Cook-Off big local hit

Hartselle’s annul Cotton Pickin’ BBQ Cook-Off, a KCBS-sanctioned event sponsored by Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce, attracted a record 53 cooking teams on Friday and Saturday.

“This was our best event so far,” said Susan Hines, Chamber of Commerce president. “We had some rain on Saturday morning but it didn’t take away from the spirit of the competition or the excitement of the crowds. Of course, a big part of the success was our volunteers. We appreciate what they do as well as the support of the community.”

Winners in several categories were announced Saturday afternoon.

The top three overall winners were Hickory Prime, first; Smoke Me Silly, second; and Fat, Drunk & Stupid, third.

Other top three winners are listed as follows:

•Chicken – Jiggy Piggy, first; South Pork, second; and Hickory Prime, third.

•Pork ribs – Fat Bear BBQ, first; Fat, Drunk & Stupid, second; and The Specialists, third.

•Pork – Fat, Drunk & Stupid, first; Hickory Prime, second; and Rooters –N-Tooters, third.

•Brisket – Smoke Me Silly, first; The Specialists, second; and Hot Cole’s BBQ, third.

•Sauce – The Fat Guyz, first; Slingin Pig Meat, second; and Bama Boys BBQ, third.

•Dessert – Big B’s BBQ-Tn, first; Bonnie Blue, second; and South Pork, third.
