LETTER: A sprucing up for Main Street
In case you haven’t noticed, Hartselle’s Main Street on the eastern side of town is getting dressed up like a bride for her wedding. I’m referring, of course, to the new sidewalks being installed in this older section of the city.
The old sidewalks on the southern side of Main were ripped out and replaced last fall. With the arrival of spring, the city is now continuing its good work on the northern side of the street.
A fond farewell to the old walkways. They served Main Street well for many years, but it was time for them to go. They were in such bad shape that you needed a map to navigate around the gaps, cracks, and missing sections in the concrete. Soon, visitors to our fair city will be welcomed by a beautiful, smooth ribbon of white on both sides of Main from Bethel Road all the way into downtown.
I’m particularly glad to see these new sidewalks because I walk along Main quite often to get in some much-needed exercise. I challenge other residents to join me on this excursion along Hartselle’s main thoroughfare. It’ll do you good physically; it won’t cost you a thing; and it will help you appreciate our city officials who saw the need for this improvement.
