Turney seeks Democratic committee post
Franklin Delano Turney is a candidate for the Alabama Democratic Executive Committee, District 9, subject to action of voters in the June 3 Primary Election.
A former eight-year member of the Alabama Silver Haired Legislature, Turney said he chose to seek the office because he wants to make a positive difference in the way government handles issues and problems.
“I believe the more ideas you have brought to bear on a problem, the better are your chances of coming up with a solution,” he pointed out. “If you agree to disagree without being disagreeable, you’ll get a lot more done for the benefit of all the people.”
A graduate of the former Morgan County High School, Turney holds a B.A. degree in education from Athens State College and a Master’s in divinity in pastoral care from Emory University. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Air Force War College and a certified installer of geothermal heating and cooling systems.
Turney is a retired U.S. Army Lt. Col., having served in the Alabama Army National Guard for 34 years. He also served an Army chaplain and as a pastor of Methodist churches for 30 years. He also was employed with Chemstrand Corporation and General Electric in Decatur.
He is a member of the Morgan County Demo-cratic Executive Commit-tee and resides in Hartselle.
