Shady Grove Baptist youth plan fundraiser

Shady Grove Baptist Church youth will host a steak sandwich fundraiser Sat., June 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds will be used to help pay for a youth mission trip to Kentucky. All support will be greatly appreciated.

On Thur., May 15, the Emmanuel Mennonite Church women’s group hosted its annual widow’s dinner at the Massey Church activity area. Many of the members invited widows from South Morgan County communities and towns and they met at noon. They had prayer and enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken, vegetables and desserts. After their dessert, the women were directed in singing hymns and played several games.

Fairview: The Grace Place sponsored a midnight run fundraiser for the Carpenter’s Cabinet Food Bank Fri., May 16, at South Park in Falkville. The 140 participants raised $1,800. Chris Warnick, director of the facility, appreciates the efforts of the church and those who were runners. Many families are helped each week with food at the Carpenter’s Cabinet and money from the fundraiser will benefit many needy people in the area.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy go out to the family of Esmer Anders of Massey. He was a former resident of Danville and graduated with the Danville High School Class of 1952. He was interred at McKendree Cemetery on Sun., May 18.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church remember in loving memory this week the following: John Edgar Hughes from May 5, 1918, to July 8, 2012, Marvolene Herbert from May 8,1929, to July 4, 2012, Evelyn Edwards from May 11, 1913, to July 25, 2002 and Louie Morris from May 19, 1927, to Jan. 5, 2007.

Cousins Shirley Pope, Paulette Wilhite, Fred Hogan, Faynell Smith, Kay Farrer, Jeff Reid, Betty Walker, Martha Nell Barkyounb, Melba Aris and Carmel Smith enjoyed visiting and playing bingo at Corinth West Baptist Church on Senior Citizens Day, Tues., May 20.

Belated happy birthday wishes go out to Lois Penn for 100th birthday, Shirley Pope for her 79th birthday, Doris Herring for her 95th birthday and Connie Wallace, all on May 26, and Avery Claire Hollis on May 27.

Happy birthday wishes also go out to Chris Long on May 28 and Reagan Bowling on May 29.

Happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Jim and Karen (Bryant) Walker for their 43rd wedding anniversary May 29 and Tim and Sally Roden for their 16th wedding anniversary May 30.

Belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Jason and Paige Boyd and Mike and Kay Hanline. Both couples celebrated their 19th anniversaries May 27.

Get well wishes go out this week to Letha Hopkins. She is well known as the Avon Lady and hasn’t been well for several months. Recently, she has been undergoing tests at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with her.

Corinth West Methodist’s memorial program on Sun., May 18, at 11 a.m. included comments from people in the congregation, memorial poems and Bible verses by the children.

Family members of the deceased provided special music. “Give Me the Flowers While I’m Living,” “Just a Little Talk with Jesus” and “Peace in the Valley” were the songs they sang.

There was congregational singing led by volunteers. Pastor Wayne Jetton delivered the devotional on remembering our loved ones. The closing song was “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” led by Pastor Waynell Maddox.

After lunch in the fellowship hall, everyone enjoyed the gospel singing in the sanctuary at 1 p.m. Bud Woods was the chairman.

The Mt. Vernon and Corinth West Congrega-tional Methodist churches will have a joint Bible school this summer at Mt. Vernon. The activities will begin June 1-6 each night at 6 p.m. This year, the Bible school study and music theme is “Jungle Safari.” Children and youth in the surrounding communities are welcome.

Linda Clemons of Neel just returned from a seven-day cruise, which began in Tampa, Fla. On the schedule were Cozumel, Mexico, Belize, Honduras and the Cayman Islands.

Neel United Methodist Church has scheduled its vacation Bible school for Friday evening, June 6, Saturday during the day and closing ceremony on Sunday morning at the regular worship service.

Neel United Methodist Women meet on the first Wednesday each month. On May 7, they met at the church. The June 4 meeting will be hosted by Mary McCay at her home in Neel.

Gene Wilson of Massey community attended the Senior Citizens event at Corinth West Baptist Church May 20 at 11 a.m. Belinda Ricks of Andrew’s Chapel community was in charge of food for the meal. Jeff Reid of Corinth did the fish frying.

Gaynell Wilhite, also of Corinth, invited the Emens Baptist Church of Logan adult Bible study group to join them. Gaynell announced the May birthdays and everyone sang to Shirley Pope and Barbara Still.

Emma Farr had a May anniversary. Mothers awards went to Mildred Reid of Battleground, the oldest present and Elda Shedd who has 12 children received a gift.

Memorial candles were on a table of photos and articles about the six members who passed away since last May. Information and comments were given about each of the deceased.

Prayer requests were made and Bud Woods led the prayer for those people. Gaynell read the 23rd Psalm and Roxanne Woods sang “I Still Trust Him” and led the group singing “Peace in the Valley.”

Jeff Reid blessed the food and the 45 who attended enjoyed a delicious meal and fellowship. Afterward, Gaynell called three bingo games and everyone got nice prizes.

The June Senior Citizens Day will be Tues., June 17, in the church fellowship hall. Area communities are welcome.
