Union Hill senior center 99% complete

Morgan County Commission authorized the final payment to Adams Building Co. for the construction of a new senior center at Union Hill at a regular meetingTuesday.

District 4 Commissioner Greg Abercrombie said the $17,375 payment completes the project, as far as the general contractor is concerned. He said the parking lot has been paved and marked and grass sod is being put down this week.

“We’re 99% complete,” he said. “The building will be opened for the Primary Election on June 3 and a ribbon cutting and open house is being planned.”

The facility is located at the four-way crossing in Union Hill. It replaces an old senior center in the Brindley Mountain Park. It features a safe room, a screened in porch and a wrap-around porch.

In a related but separate item, the commission authorized a change order with the contractor for $2,660.

Abercrombie said the money was used to construct a pull-down shutter for an opening, which connects the kitchen to the main meeting area. “We needed that to close off the kitchen when the center is being used for family events,” he stated.
