Bone marrow drive set for June 21
McKenzie Ray, an 11-year-old Tallassee, AL native, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in May 2013. Today, her only hope for survival is a bone marrow transplant, and like 70 percent of patients in need, she cannot find a match within her family. Thus, her family is turning to the public to search for her life-saving match.
The organizers of the Karz 4 Kenzie car show and silent auction wanted to do something to help.
“After hearing Kenzie’s story, we knew we had to do something.” said Joe Manz. “We want to do what we can to register more people to save Kenzie and others that are battling blood cancer.
The Karz for Kenzie car show will be held at Brechtel’s Transmission and Auto at 3011 Hwy. 31, S, in Hartselle Sat., June 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature music, food, drinks. auction items and fine cars. Attendees can learn about the cause and register as a potential donor with a drive volunteer. All proceeds will go to Children’s Hospital and to Delete Blood Cancer to cover the cost of HLA testing for each new bone marrow registrant.
